I had forgotten that existed. Because $5k

If their numbers are right, then they claim there's nearly a 50hp and 40lbft of torque loss to the wheels from the crank. I believe my truck is rated at 160hp and 180lbft. That doesn't seem efficient Toyota...

Yes you will notice it. Size your turbo according to what efficiency range you want it to operate in and you could be in full boost at 2500 rpms. Turbo's can be very efficient and make much more power then a SC.
URD makes a SC kit for our truck that adds 130whp and 100wtq with just the SC added and its only $4500. Comes with their tune of course. Add full exhaust, bigger injectors and a fuel pump with a retune and get 30whp more and you're at a 150% power increase under $6k.

I'd still go the route of a turbo and make more power for less money. Iron block and forged rods are stock. Add lower pistons, a head gasket and arp studs and get 300whp on 8 psi out of it. Turn the boost up and 400whp is conceivable. Add a flex fuel kit and run e85 and 500whp is conceivable. I'd keep that 2tr you have.

Indeed. Truck is much quicker now. But I also have light wheels and tires at 59# each set total, so I notice the improvement more than if your truck has a 65-70+ wheel and tire combo.

But yeah, truck is much more responsive and fun to drive.

And then your truck becomes an unreliable piece of shit because you decided put your grubby little dickbeaters on it instead of just accepting Toyota’s engineering to make the 2TR a long lasting little engine

I would keep it lower than 10psi for sure. Just for peace of mind. Guess I saw too many Honda fanboys throw turbo kits on their cars in my late teens and early 20s blow up

At no point in my wheeling experience, yet, have I felt underpowered. Sure, I could use a locker and better tars. Those are soon-ish.

    Pavement, different story.

:D It’s my special brand of love.

Really what I was pointing out is how deep and dark the rabbit hole goes once you start talking engine mods. It’s a bummer to see a lot of guys start projects and not finish them because they fall into the “while I’m in here” trap. Or they end up spending all their time and money fiddling with the truck trying to get it to run right instead actually wheeling

Right! It happened to me on my H22A4 Prelude. Not doing that again!

Hence an avg boost of 5-8psi. If the motor is solid, which I'm pretty sure mine would've said otherwise by now, it can handle a very mild turbo kit. The rub is that I'd still have to do something with injectors, fuel pump, and ECU. I'm cheap and I want to stay as close to 'plug n play' that I can.

Best way to go for sure!

It’s comical buying parts for the Tacoma. The look on the parts counter guy’s face was priceless when I asked for brake rotors off a 1984 LandCruiser, brake pads for a 1994 pickup with a v6 and an oil filter for a 1998 Tacoma.

I’ll be around for sure! Doing Hot Springs in April, Flat Nasty in June, and then typically go south again in the fall once the heat breaks. Its too damn hot down there in July and August!
