    You have been able to for a while. NC recognized SC permits long before SC recognized NC which just happened about a yr ago.

    I have invested in using research to find the truth. I will try and find the laws in the states website but if that becomes to tedious then I'll try and find a reputable source that links or cites the actual law. Best way to stay informed and know the truth.

    That would work well, if I actually had more time to find them. I am glad that I usually only travel SC/NC/GA I would lose my shit if I had to find out or research a ton of other states. I do have concerns if I decide to take a road trip to CT to see some family........but so far, that has not panned out.

    just to reiterate...

    Anyone allowed to own a handgun can carry one loaded in the vehicle in SC as long as it's behind a latched console or glove box, even w/o a CWP.

    dumb question.. what is defined as latched? Locking mechanism? Or does the push button on a 2nd gen center console count as latched?

    anything that has a closing device. the 2nd gen console would be defined as latched.

    the nice thing is that it isn't stipulated to be "locked".

    Don't even try to figure it all out I've got family all up N. I will not tell you what I do in a public forum like this. I will say during my travel through areas I am considered a felon just by traveling in those areas.

    SECTION 16-23-20. Unlawful carrying of handgun; exceptions.

    It is unlawful for anyone to carry about the person any handgun, whether concealed or not, except as follows, unless otherwise specifically prohibited by law:

    9) a person in a vehicle if the handgun is:

    (a) secured in a closed glove compartment, closed console, closed trunk, or in a closed container secured by an integral fastener and transported in the luggage compartment of the vehicle; however, this item is not violated if the glove compartment, console, or trunk is opened in the presence of a law enforcement officer for the sole purpose of retrieving a driver's license, registration, or proof of insurance. If the person has been issued a concealed weapon permit pursuant to Article 4, Chapter 31, Title 23, then the person also may secure his weapon under a seat in a vehicle, or in any open or closed storage compartment within the vehicle's passenger compartment; or

    (b) concealed on or about his person, and he has a valid concealed weapons permit pursuant to the provisions of Article 4, Chapter 31, Title 23;

    looks like it's "closed" and not "latched"...either way, there ya go.
