No where specific for this question so I'll ask you genius'.

When towing a vehicle on a flatbed trailer where should you attach the straps on the vehicle on the trailer?

I've done this before and research showed to strap the axles using axle straps.

I'm asking because I saw two tow rigs hauling large, lifted trucks putting the straps through the openings on the rims. They were also using microfiber washcloths to protect the high dollar rims from the straps.

They appeared to be 'professional' haulers as they had DOT info on their doors of their 3500 tow rigs. The towed rigs were also 2500s. One with a huge lift and low profile tires. The other looked like it was in the process of becoming the other. It had a mild lift and similar low profile tires.

I guess I just need to know if this is a proper way to secure a truck to a trailer. Or if I'm just being "judgey".

I'd say none of them are ok, just because I'm no expert. I've seen enough go south that they have no appeal to me

Frozen junk build up on top of sliders that is contacting the body when you hit bumps.

I don't see an issue with it as long as they are properly tightened down. I think they have tire straps meant for just that purpose. And lowered vehicles you likely can't access an axle, especially when it's independent suspension.

This is definitely a possibility cause my sliders definitely have significant ice buildup on them. Something tells me you ran into this before.... Thanks! I will try scraping that off and see if the noise goes away.

Yup, first few times i was worried. I also had a rock wedge itself between the pinch weld and slider when there wasn't frozen crap to blame the noise on. Took me a bit of poking around to finally see the little rock and pry it out. But the ice knock culprit is usually at the front of the slider in my experience.

The ones I'm aware of go around the actual tire, not through a hole in the rim. I don't recall that style. But then again, the rims I was using wouldn't really allow for through the rim, so it's possible I just overlooked them as "not for my use" and I'm not recalling that style. Still seems awkward and possibly causing damage to the rim. But that's why I'm asking.

Did some Googling and it appears to be perfectly acceptable. Even advised in certain situations.

Anybody have any experience with these things? Truck won’t pass emissions so I’m looking for a fast cheap fix until I get around to finding out what I’m gonna do for cats

    It's like a Texas in-n-out correct?

Edit: is there one in DFW? I'll have a lunch time layover there.

Cool, I've had that, Blake's Lottaburger, In-n-out, Crave, Habit Burger, probably a ton I can't think of right now and they were all 'pretty good'. Idk what the big fuss is about them, but since they are pretty good, I'll usually have one if I find myself in the area.
