I gave up on trying to fix it myself. Don’t have the time to mess with it myself. Who wants to bet they say something about the leaking valve cover and the oil all down the side of the motor?

I know how that feels... I was without a truck for almost two weeks.

Back when my flexplate decided to crap itself, I had no idea what the issue was. I was debating on bringing it home and fixing it myself but I wasn't versed enough in transmissions to find what actually went wrong. I'm glad I brought it to a shop though for piece of mind, the torque converter ended up being warped and if I replaced the flexplate myself it would've just broke again.

Sometimes it's best to have a professional take care of it.

Yea, I agree especially when it's something that you can't imagine whats wrong. Like your torque converter was warped I'm sure none of us would of thought of checking it. My biggest headache with my truck was 2 years ago it drove like the engine was going to explode or the transmission was jumping out of it's mounts. Turned out the downstream O2 sensor had a faulty heating element but didn't throw a CEL. I had to hook it up to my laptop and drive around with my brother riding shotgun as he went through graphs and other data reading

I’m in Fishers, not exactly close lol. I’ve been trying to get to the badlands but the truck keeps needing maintenance/repairs.

I’ve learned to know when to give up and take it somewhere and I’ve only done it a handful of times. I’m going on a week and a half without my truck and out F150 decided to have a caliper start sticking so that truck is now out of commision. It’s been a s#*t show with vehicles around here lately

I did not. I said something to the shop about it. I haven’t had time to crawl under there and put a spacer in, school has been kicking my ass.

The shop didn't think about checking it either. The replaced the flexplate and it broke as I was driving it out of the shop.

After that they measured everything and found it was the TC at fault. But I really don't blame them - 99% of the time your torque converter won't be warped like mine was.

How'd you hook up your laptop to the truck's OBD system?

The Crapmobile had a big hairline crack dead center in the instrument Cluster, so I went to Pick-n-Pull and bought another lens. Unluckily for me, it was the cable driven Cluster lens which was a little different. I had to pop out the plexiglass from the backing and epoxy it to my original backing.

The plexiglass was also scratched to high hell so I spent an hour polishing it with rubbing compound. Looks good as new now.

What I like about 3rd Gen 4Runners is the plexiglass and black shroud can separate. On Tacomas it's glued.

Yeah this thing still had the 2RZ in it. Very surprised.

It has like 350,000 miles though.

Had to dig deep into Google to find the right sensor. Ended up finding a thread on some Nissan forum asking the same thing and I got a part number.
