    Nope.

2Hi, 4Hi, and 4Lo all have different TRAC functions. They all work through the single TRAC Off button or CC, MTS, A-TRAC , and Locker buttons (specific to trims and transmissions) depending on when and how you press it / them.

I had my truck for a couple months before I stumbled onto the thread that started to explain the functions.

Again, the OM is pretty bad at the descriptions.

OK, thanks. Still a bit confused buy maybe I need to just take time and read. A poster earlier said how open diff sucks and how he hated his 4x2, but now you're saying all of the 4x4 tacos are open diff. BUT with TRAC functions (lsd). I'm confused lol.

Because his truck had no TRAC functions to assist. That changed with the 3rd Gens.

It is confusing and takes time to figure out.

Everything is wide open front and back. No mechanical limited slips. The limited slip functionality is created with a brake traction control system that brakes a spinning wheel to force the other to turn. The end result is the same, just different method to get there.

The OR has a better brake booster to perform the brake traction control stronger. All the LSD/TRAC/MTS acronyms are computer software that uses the brake traction control.

The OR has an electrically actuated rear locker that locks the rear axle so the rear tires HAVE to turn at the same speed. If you decide to engage it. When it's not engaged, it's wide open, like every other tacoma.

Instead of me mentioning earlier that the turn signals in the mirrors are Standard Equipment on both models, I should have also mentioned that they are equipped differently than the 2nd Gens were.

Correct, the last time the Sport had a Mechanical Rear Diff was around 08 or 09.

No, you are getting LESS for the price. Not at all subjective.

I have to agree to an extent. While I prefer the Sport, the OR is more bang for the buck - regardless of if the average OR driver uses those features or not.

That's why I think the Sport should come with dual exhaust or something to make up the difference.

Back in the 2nd Gens they gave more trinkets in the Sport, seems like they should give something like you said in the form of a dual exhaust. But they are selling them as they come now so I dont see them changing anything.

I know. You're saying that Less is not subjective. I am wondering how it has less.

You’ll be able to do quite a bit even with open diffs front and rear. My Cherokee with open diffs does damn good out in the jersey pines. Would it go through more with a rear locker? Probably. Go through a lot more with a front locker and open rear diff that’s for sure. Don’t get scared about it the open diffs will be fine off-road how you describe what you want.

Both the Sport and the Off Road have an 'open diff' that have computer simulated Limited Slip, the Off Road has a Selectable Electronic Rear Diff that you can turn on in 4 low to help get you thru the nasty.

open diffs are fine until you get two wheels in the air .. then you have either 1 or 0 tires putting power down

but then brake traction control would save you. My buddy has a 2008 SR5 and I don't think it has brake traction control, we got stuck off camber with one front tire in the air and one rear tire in loose gravel at the bottom of a dried river bed.

This ongoing argument is why I finally pulled the trigger and joined this board. I'm so excited to finally chime in with my two cents! In Canada it appears that the off road is not available with a long box. My sport also came with towing package. So for your application I would go for the sport. Factory transmission cooler, hitch and wiring and longer box - cant go wrong. From what I understand it is a burlier rear diff as well. Maybe US is different? I dont know.
You can always get a locker later after spending too much time on this forum.
Oh and call me foolish but I get a little woody everytime I look out and see my non functioning hood scoop. Seriously. Even when it impairs my vision on the trail.
