The fix is in, and it worked! My howl was not too obnoxious, maybe 5 on a 10 scale. But I had the TSB done yesterday and the noise is gone.

Thank you to Smitty, Moondog, and all of the others that provided helpful information on this forum over the past year.

Glad to be of assistance. Shout out to Smitty99 (RIP TW Account). My plan all along was to wait as long as possible and hope a fix came out or LL it (mine is loud). Right as I was about to jump on Toyota, they pulled through and I couldn’t be happier. I love my Taco! I’m getting mine done in about 2 weeks. I wish I could sooner but have some work deadlines. Let’s keep this thread going and post results. Some may disagree with how this was done or with some of our speculation back and forth but we got together, made some noise, and got a fix. Oh yeah!

I do not believe the long beds get new leaf springs. Only the short beds.

Mine goes under the knife tomorrow, would have been sooner if I had checked my voicemail letting me know my parts had arrived.

Okay so I know a tech at my local store and he says the problem IS the rear differential. The gears from factory are too tight causing the teeth to grind down leaving metal shavings inside the diff itself. The fix is to replace the diff and correct the the gears.

Except that people who have had their gears pulled and replaced have shown 0 evidence of this.
    But hey, you do you.

That may be true in just a small hand full of cases as the original fix was to swap out rears and in most cases the Howling returned. The new TSB to fix the problem seems to be having good results though.

Wow gosh thanks I suppose my GMC that makes the exact same noise under the exact same conditions should be ready to blow a dif any minute now. Oh wait it’s got 96k on it no problem. As stated many times above it’s a resonance issue always has been.

So what's the new TSB? Sorry just don't want to skim all 200 pages.

The TSB just came out recently, if you just go back 2 or 3 pages you will see what is in it.

My Yukon XL has a very slight resonance at, you guessd it, around 55mph. It is a very slight noise and not enough to worry with. But, if the rear differential was set up the way Toyota envisioned it, we wouldn’t be here having these conversations. Something with the rear differential is louder than Toyota planned so they are trying to fix the noise resonating from it. That noise is excessive in thousands of units. If they make it where I can’t hear it, I’m good. I’ve been a not so lucky recipient of a seized up differential and it’s not fun but that differential got progressively louder and mine has yet to do that. I thought earlier on it did but I’m willing to chalk that up to my OCD kicking in and noticing it the nanosecond it started the howling. Either way, we are all learning as we go and maybe Toyota thought there was a few bad differentials. Maybe so, maybe not. Why else would they replace them? I bet it was because they were at a loss or speculating just as much as we were about the cause of the noise. These engineers are just as human as we are. Anyway, keep posting hopefully great results (and not so great ones if you have them). Thanks to all for keeping us in the know/loop.

Guess who got their invitation to the party today? 16k almost exactly and cresting a hill and coasting down the backside at 55 I noticed it immediately. Noise went away as soon as I applied some throttle. I always have my rear slider open, and I go over this hill probably everyday, so it's definitely new.

I had just scheduled my 15k service too lol.

And I have a new suspension I was gonna put on this weekend...
