In my infinite wisdom and experience with PDR, this is the first Tacoma roof I am doing. I have a question about dropping the headliner. Are the SRS Airbag tabs with the screw underneath actually connected to the curtains in some fashion? As in if I remove these will the airbag deploy, or after I put the headliner back up will it kick some sort of code for the airbag? I feel like they are just holding the liner up, but I really don’t want to risk it. 0EFD0DAB-B57A-4259-9C1C-419C28D4945F.jpg4CAD8A55-AB2C-4029-B804-811CD63315BD.jpg

Well I couldn’t find an answer so I said “eff it” and unscrewed them. Just a bracket back there.

I see you already found the answer. If I had seen this earlier, I would have helped. I can confirm, they just hold the headliner in. You have to remove those and the A, B and C pillar covers to drop the entire head liner.

EDIT: and the overhead console and dome light.

Fortunately I didn’t need to drop the whole thing at once, I did the left (driver)side of the roof and then put it back together and then the same for the right side of the roof, so I didn’t have to worry about the A (and the handle) and C pillars - Gotta love that upholstery/clip tool to untuck and tuck the headliner back in place! Thanks for reaching out anyhow! I’ve been a hail tech for 8 years and shockingly never had to do a Tacoma until today. I figured I’d leave my thread up for anyone who searches for this in the future. Cheers!

Do you have any pics of the hail damage before and after? At what point is there just too many dents for PDR? I've never lived in an area where the hail balls are big enough to pound your skull and kill you.

I do not, I’ve tried but photos just don’t do any justice to the damage. We don’t get bad hail here, typically smaller than a dime, and the contract I’m under is fair about the line of severity where it makes sense to replace the panel rather than PDR it or mud it and paint it if there are just too many hits. *Typically* I don’t work on a car that has more than 200 hits across the top panels and rails/quarters. If the vehicle has been in a storm that’s dropping skull crushing stones, most insurances I’ve dealt with (in New England) will write it off as totaled and cut you a check. I’m not sure I can really say any more about it with the whole NDA/CDA thing and all, lol. I keep doing the job, so I guess I enjoy it!
