I had a Detroit Tru-Trac in the front of my first Jeep CJ back in the '70's. It's not a locker....not a limited slip....they're a planetary posi-track unit that provides a nice smooth steerable front with minimal hassle. They tend to apply power to which ever side has the most traction. Not a bad option, but personally, I'd lean towards an air locker for rear applications.

Zachk, the truetrac isn't a locker. It's an LSD :gossip:

His is the powertrax no-slip. Like mine, and Everett's, and gid's...

Edit- at least that's what @Kerleyfries told me it was before he apparently forgot.

I would at least consider what I said about them on ice. Ask @Mr.Bl0nde

Hmmm. Best to my knowledge, and the super accurate info from TW, I have the "8.4 rear Non-ELO", right?

I'm 99.9% sure it's the same part for all non-elocker rears, but... I'd just keep tagging @allmotorrex until he gets annoyed with the BS in this thread and responds with the needed info regarding 2008 fitment just to shut us up. :)

You could wait until after LBL to order. Then, you'll have the chance to ride in or drive multiple trucks with that unit to see how you like it.

What about finding a totaled Tacoma with the e locking diff and change out the whole axle. Put a switch on it and should be bolt in.

ECGS has 2 different choices of rears for factory no-locker trucks. The 8" and the 8.4" non-elo.

I sent them a message asking for help.

This is a good idea that i have toyed with but i think the main issue is that 4x4 axles are a different length than 2x4.

Put a mechanical in, the elockers are an 8”, not as strong, more expensive, and you’ve got electronics to worry about. Whatever @rngr said I have in my truck is probably right. I got it free from @Mr.Bl0nde when he totaled his old truck so it was already installed in a diff, just had to swap the diffs.

You have an 8.4”. They don’t make non-elocker diffs in an 8 in our trucks. If ecgs’s website has it listed to fit an 8.4 then it’ll fit.
