    Haha, you think it's pretty simple, and it should be, but I've never been a party to successfully separating the CV axles from the hub in a 2nd Gen. It's a bitch. You almost need some sort of press that bolts to the wheel studs and has a jack screw that presses the axle out.

    Oh, don't get me wrong, it is pretty straight forward. It's just getting the axle out of the hub that's a bitch. Obviously if can be done, but every time I've tried it we ended up giving up and coming up with a different process to work around it. Also, I've never searched TW or Youtube to see how others have done it, so maybe there's a trick that we just never clued into.

    Hint: Search TW and Youtube before you tackle it to see how others have done it...and slide me the link so I can finally be in the know.

    Seems like in every video and post ive seen they just used a hammer and chisel. Some just a pry bar and go town.

    Yeah, curiosity got the better of me so I looked up some videos myself. They did nothing we didn't do (except one guy used like a full sized 15 lb sledge, but he only lightly tapped it and it came loose). They made it look easy. I don't get it. We've wailed on 'em with a BFH and a brass drift with not even the slightest movement. @allenfab can back me up on this. Maybe you'll have better luck.

    Ive done my wheel bearings a few times, haven’t had any issues. But im a mechanic :anonymous:

    But seriously, the hard part is pressing the hub out and in the new bearing. And getting it bolted up and realized you forgot to put the backing plate on behind the hub. :annoyed:

    You're the only one I know personally that hasn't had issues. IIRC, even Wes had issues when he tried to get his CVs out of the hub.

    Tried it on Phil's truck. Didn't work.

    Edit: That is, I think I did. That was several years ago, so my CRS might be interfering.

    Anybody ever replaced their cv boots? Fount a tear thats staring on one of my inners. Would like to get a new boot and fresh grease on it before it tears completely, spits the grease out and trashes the joint.

    Yeah, make sure you do the boot stretch trick so the ribs aren’t touching at ride height. Or they wear out fast. I learned that the hard way.
