.224 is on my list, the cartridge looks good. Only real concern is barrel life, so I'm not sure if I want to turn one into a game gun.

Havent looked at the issues of barrel life yet but it seems like an over hyped cartridge that all the big shots in the gun industry are trying to promote. They were making claims of BC and distance before any real data was even out. I'll wait until the forum guys start really doing testing on this round before getting into the hype. Look how quick 22 nosler has fallen to the wayside.

Well BC and distance are known things. You can easily make claims about those with very little shooting. It's all math. 80-90 grain bullets are already used in competition and have been for mannnny years. They just were too long to load in .223 in magazines. If you can get over that (which .224 does) then you just need to figure out how fast you can push it. Once you have that, then it's all math to figure out your ballistics (which is where you get the supersonic at 1300 or whatever it is). Those 90 grain bullets always had amazing ballistics because they're so sleek, the problem was always just pushing it fast enough.

Also having talked with some LWRC guys at a trade show who have shot it, they saw really good results. I think there's enough buy in from the manufacturers (which you need if you're a consumer) that it'll last for a while at least. And really once you get the brass for it loading it in the future isn't going to be hard, .224 90gr projectiles will always be available. Also since the .224 Valkyrie is just 6.8spc necked down, you can make the brass for it pretty easy. And since it's a long range cartridge most people don't dump tons of rounds through it like you do with .223. So you're not going to wear the brass as much.

The downside is that I think it's kind of an answer looking for a solution. What is this cartridge made for? Is it better for shooting competitions? Maybe PRS gas gun series, but that's about it, and that's not super popular, though it is there. Is it better for hunting? Sure I guess, but when are you needing to take shots at 400 yards with 75gr bullets and need it to come out of an autoloader and need it to come from an AR-15 rather than an AR-10 or something?

Regardless, I think it's cool, I'll probably get one.
