Another morning and I just can't replicate that stuttering 3rd gear acceleration. It's 34° here and so I just turned on my truck and immediately drove off. Tried 3rd gear at 2k rpm among some other stuff and I just couldn't get it to happen. Don't know what to say folks

I'm convinced I likely imagined it. Maybe even a byproduct of reading about instances of it. This isn't to say it's not happening to anyone else. I just can't get it to happen after several attempts .

Yep! The first tank of 92 was just an accident, pushed the wrong button. It smoothed out the big hump at 3,500rpm. During the second tank, the engine felt what I would call numb throughout the rev range. I lost a couple MPGs in the process. The first tank was over Christmas vacation, so that could be explained.

87 felt immediately better and the MPGs are up.

I'll keep that in mind. I'd like to try it at some point especially if the timing transition is smooth.

It is always good to try. You would want to get the tank as empty as you can to get the best feel for the difference. The distance to empty going to zero with 5gal left is always funny.

Just to note, 87 has a more distinct bump at 3,500 and my particular truck on the stock tune seems to have very few of the problems that folks post about.

At that RPM, I wonder if you guys are right at the Atkinson/Otto or Port/Direct transition. On my stock truck, the intake cam phasers seem to vary the intake gradually, but the injection mode is just sort of digital from what i can see.

There is also the variable length intake opening and closing.

    Who knows?

In the end, I'm happier with 87 and on the fence with about tuning.

So just an update - I’m on tank of fuel #2 (87 e0) and I haven’t noticed the issue I was having with the first tank. It’s either learned itself out, or it didn’t like the fuel I had the first time. I’ll report back again once I get some more miles.

I’ve also noticed the in dash display is reading low compared to what I’m actually getting. Last fill up was 19.5, display said 18.4.

I got a brand new one free of charge out of it, but they made a local gun shop eat over half the cost on it, and it was certainly stolen at that facility. Naturally they refuse to admit that and their customer service through the whole situation was abysmally tragic. A lot of things about their side of the story dont add up either. I documented everything down to the smallest detail and it was only good for intimidating "supervisors" who tried to blow me off and getting them to change their stance to taking my comments under advisement. Lol

Now I get a courtesy call from the ATF every 3 months or so as part of their protocol they said, for verifying that the lost/stolen rifle has not yet been recovered.

Still had the slight stuttering in 2nd and 3rd under 3k RPM. This was at the beginning and end of my commute. Temps are in the 70s here today.

The more I think about it, I bet it's the stupid Atkinson/Otto cycles switching.... but I really don't know. Just seems likely.

Going on day 3 now with 1.03b and I just want to remove the tune. The power down low is nice but the throttle is too digital and the surging on light acceleration and deceleration makes this embarrassing to drive people around with. The earlier version 1.03 has better throttle control but the power wasn’t quite as good.

Agreed - great explanation. I’m not sure if it’s getting worse or I didn’t notice it previously, but even regular drivinf is ”digital” with surges. I am now noticing it from 2000-3000 rpm. It’s particularly bad when the engine isn’t warmed up.

I too will be reverting back to 1.03 until this is sorted out.

I dont have surges but I'm definitely super light on the throttle now compared to stock and 1.03. The throttle could be less of a hair trigger, I agree, but personally for me it's not enough for me to revert back to 1.03. I adapted to the change that 1.03B presented and enjoy the tune.

today i was in rush hour traffic for quite a while. i noticed the following consistently:

light surging about 100-200rpm worth going up and down centered around 1200rpm or so. i had my foot rock steady on the throttle just tipping in, no movement there. yet the revs would not settle, just up and down 100-200rpm like it was looking for something.

i love this tune over stock like life itself, but lemme just say driving a MT slowly in first with that is a total bitch. (and i still had fun doing it).

I'm going to try that in 4lo 1st gear! JK, no I'm not...

I wish I had a proper diagnostic tool with the lead/backprobe set and some expert assistance. I'm thinking it would be very informative to track certain waveforms in real time, simultaneously, on the same time base. Examples could be throttle motor voltage, injector pulse width, VVT control valve voltage, etc etc. Something seems to be twitching quite rapidly during these stutters. I mean, if you're watching it in real time versus depending on what the ecu is telling you via a comm link, I would think something obvious would show up. Damn, sooo close.
