So, I got KO2s yesterday and BFG said that based on lbs, I should inflate them to 40 (cold) in front and 45 (cold) in rear. That seemed high to me so I did the chalk test. At 38 front and 36 rear (warm), which means probably more like 36 and 34 cold. But it seems that my tires are over inflated big time still. What do ya'll think?

Why don't you try the 30 psi as per the door jam (Toyota)?

Because the door jam is for stock P rated tires. My tires are 285/75/16E (should have mentioned that). LT, E rated tires take more pressure to hold the same amount of weight as P rated tires. But I am worried about tread life. These tires are soft!!!

If you are only getting chalk on the outer treads, doesnt that mean you are underinflated? mayby i am wrong but most of the chalk seems to be on the outer edges

45 is crazy. Same tires, I sit at 35 all around. Works great for me.

I ran 255/80/17 km2s and also st maxxs. Both e rated. For me on a chalk test, 39-40psi was the sweet spot

No, over inflated. Meaning that the center is riding higher than the edges. At least that is what I call over inflation, I could be wrong.

unless you're carrying weight 38 may be a bit high as well.

I'm not the normal case, I'm a bit exaggerated, but I'm on E's at 30psi front and 27 rear when warm. in cold weather that's like 25 & 22 in the morning. my chalk test is perfectly uniform.

the exaggerated part of that is that i ride light with no added weight, not even steps. and my E tires are small 265/65-17 so they are much less compliant than E tires in almost any other size, and can run lower pressures without giving in. so for most it's probably mid 30's psi if you have a normal weight.

Here is another question, are the outer tread blocks a bit lower than the center on purpose? I wouldn't think so, but....

No he puts the chalk on the tread and whatever rubs off is what made contact. So we see the edges are left intact so they aren’t making contact with pavement=overinflated.

Oh ok makes more sense. I was thinking opposite as in chalking ground and driving over, and whatever it picks up is where contact patch is

my understanding is this isn't consistently correct. there may be more to it. some tires "cup" when over inflated, which would make them look under inflated according to that. I'm not an expert but all reports I've seen suggest sometimes it's simple and sometimes not.

This is from toyo, but this is what all of the tire manufacturers have agreed upon. https://www.toyotires.com/media/2125/application_of_load_inflation_tables_20170203.pdf

BFG did not tell you wrong. In order to hold your gross vehicle weight your tires should be at what bfg told you. The door sticker is for P rated tires.

Tacomas really arent heavy enough to wear out E rated tires fast. E rated tires are designed for 3/4 ton trucks.

But as you can see (and thanks for the link btw) my tires aren't even touching on the edges. So the middle is going to wear out way before the edges.
