I happened 5 or 6 times, maybe more, sometimes only 2-300 miles apart. Been good for almost 10K now.

Just going off my experience with my dealer. I don't think the dealership can reprogram mileage on vehicles or they would do it all the time illegally. There wouldn't be those demo trucks with 400 miles on them.

My trip meters reset on me a few times since I returned from Japan in December, except these times happened more frequently than the previous times. I got a case number from Toyota Corporate before I went to Japan back in 2016 to document the issue. Since then that case has been closed. I went to a dealership to talk to them about the issue and showed them the TSB, but they still wanted me to bring my truck in so they can try and duplicate the issue.

I posted earlier in this thread that I wasn't going to bring my truck in because they wouldn't be able to duplicated it. Instead I called Toyota Corporate again to get another case number. They just got back to me and they are going to have the local Toyota dealership in my area replace the combo meter on good will rather than under warranty because they didn't get a chance to duplicate it.

Either way, I'm glad it's getting replaced. I was furious when I spoke to TC, but tried to keep my cool as much as I can. I'm sure the rep knew I was pissed because they got something worked out to get this fixed. I have to call the dealership in a couple days to set up my appointment, but I'm not dropping my truck off until the part comes in.

Seriously pissed already. Our Toyota service dept sucks. I take it in I tell them it intermittent. They say they want it for 3 days to test it. I show them pictures of when the thing reset. They call me back after a day and half to tell me the tech drove it, can’t duplicate and that’s all they can do. I ask what about if it completely fails after I am out of warranty and they say you can purchase an extended warranty. Eat my shorts you punks.

Is there something else that can be done? Mine resets about once a month or every other month. I also have this feeling that they are gonna want to charge me to look at it...bullshit all around.

Mine was one of the worst cases..... 17 resets over more than a year, sometimes it would go a month OR MORE between....., dealer BS, Corporate BS... they finally sucked it up.
Your dealer is an A$$HOLE. Is there another dealer you can go to? He is TOTALLY out of line. (is this in Hawaii? Please tell me not...)

Call corp and tell them nicely the dealership is refusing warranty work.

I have a feeling this maybe the only route to get it done. The down side is that as usual it will take 3 months to get a part here, then 2 months to schedule and appointment. And then I get to not have my truck for another 4-8 hours before it actually fixed

Well not much can be done about that. Best time to call was 5 months ago. Next best time is now.

Been 3 weeks now, and my truck still sits on a Toyota lot, waiting for parts. Dealer refuses to release my truck and monitor parts availability & let me know when they're available. If I take truck, they'll cancel parts order.

I called Corporate again, looking for assistance at a higher level of management. Request refused... was told to go to toyota.com, click on "contact us", and send e-mail.

This is worse than a local dealership problem... this is a situation where employees are unwilling to go the extra mile, take ownership of a problem or, just simply care about their customers! Sad.

Yeah. 5 months ago would have been good.

Update: got my truck back. They didn’t charge me but also said they couldn’t replicate problem. Annoying as hell. In the service report they have the tab number I provided. I showed the pictures of after it had reset and showed the on the mpg screen on headunit where according to the truck I got there was a 3 month son where I got 13mpg. My average shown on the screen for over a year was 20mpg in several different intervals. Their comment was possibly due to driver habits/ possible heavy hauling.

I was like wtf? Really for 3 months? When the rest of the timeline shown for a time spanning a year and half with 20mpg average. Bullshit

Sorry to hear about all these problems. I am not crazy about my dealership’s service department but their handling of my case sounds so much better than many of the ones I’ve read about here. So I’ll give a public shout-out to Toyota of Santa Cruz.

Read through these posts and you will find the entire spectrum covered from Dealerships that will go totally out of their way to accommodate, to, well, I believe this case in HI is the worst I've heard. A dealer basically fabricating whatever defense they like for whatever reason I have NO idea. Mine started out not too dissimilar to the HI case, but was finally resolved (over a year later AND at a different dealership than where I bought the truck) without too much inconvenience. (One appointment, one trip, they took the truck in, and I drove it home repaired 90 minutes later. Yeah, shocking!) Sure hope the HI case gets resolved similarly. All I can offer is, hang in there, and don't give up.

Not giving up. But I know that unless I can recreate the problem or somehow have it go bad while they have it, the only other option I have is to wait till the comboMeter just craps out. They said they have it in my records that I brought it in, but I will most likely have to pay at least half of the repair cost since it will be out of warranty by then.

Yanno, I agree. This is a serious pain in the ass, an inconvenience, and an injustice to you.
The meter fail is totally.unpredictable. Toyota has recognized the problem and issued a Repair Order.

Dealership initially said I'd have to take my truck in and they'd give me a loaner until the parts came in. Toyota Corp followed up with me after I went to the dealership and TC said it won't be an issue for me to continue to drive my truck until the parts came in.

Sucks TC hasn't been able to help you with getting your truck back for the meantime, I guess each case is different. Now I gotta remember to keep following up on the status of the parts.

Definitely call Toyota Corp. I never brought my truck to a dealership to let them attempt to duplicate the issue. I talked to a couple dealerships about it, then immediately called TC afterwards to get a case number and get the issue documented.

I still have my 808 cell number so when I call TC, the automated operator always provides the number to Servco and tells me to call them; then the call hangs up. I always have to borrow some one else's phone or use Skype to call TC, but you're actually in Hawaii so you have to go through Servco. Hopefully everything will work out in your favor.

Monday--March 05--will be one month since I left truck with "Groove Toyota." Heard from dealership on 3/2: should/possibly/might/could/probably/pretty sure we'll have part next WEEK. (I hear this same song and dance each week). They still won't provide contact info. for anyone in corp. management. And, of course I hear the feigned "I'm so sorry" apologies.
Seriously folks, if you're looking for a truck, wait for Ford to make the Ranger available in the U.S.A.--should be this year.

I did wait and when Ford finally put up the info on the USA Ranger on their corporate page, I did a feature by feature comparison for comparable models. By the time you got the Ranger kinda close by through add-ons and upgrades to the Tacoma's base features, the Ranger exceeded the price of the Tacoma by a large enough gap that the difference in monthly payments was noticeable. Needless to say, I decided that the Tacoma was the better way to go. There other reasons, but I did do my diligence here before making a decision on what to purchase.
