You are really late to the party, mine first started right around 300 miles. Going down hills while feathering the throttle is usually when it's most audible.

I'm gonna retest it again before I bring it up at the dealer. I'm trying to get stuff done still from 10k service. This might cause them to kick me off the property lol. I'm optimistic about it.

I've been in this thread for awhile. Since my truck didn't have issues and was in the minority according to the poll, I figured it was something to be on the lookout for.
Also i'm here for the hors d’oeuvres.

Once you hear it you can’t not hear it.

Now I hear the same tone in music on the radio... a few times I’ve had to turn the stereo off just to make sure it wasn’t happening at another speed.

oh wow. Just got off the phone with my dealer.

When I dropped off the truck yesterday morning I gave them the TSB 0010-18 for the rear end howl.

So far all they have done is tried putting plugs the front control arms and they said it didn't get rid of the howl

So now they're waiting on the FTS to get back to them on what they should do next. I told them what the issue is!!!

They just wasted a whole fucking day... So frustrating.

So they haven't ordered the correct parts, which means I won't be getting this done anytime soon.

Which means I have to drive the 120 miles round trip to return the rental, just to do again once they get the parts.

My dealer will not do anything unless instructed by a case manager/supervisor verbatim. Its really quite sad.

    Lololol

Just when I had an ounce of second guessing whether I should have traded when I did enter my thoughts... your post reminded me of my Toyota experience.

With the luck I was having, they'd do this for weeks, then fix it poorly. I'd have to go back because they fucked something up. Then it would be " fixed" and I'd still hear it pretty badly.

I've said it all along: I love my truck, hate my dealer. Toyota is really dropping the ball on their dealer experience. Lexus ever makes a truck, I'm outta here.
Even my VW dealer was better.

    Sorry to hear this.
When I took my truck in for the front end howl, they blamed my cap and prinsu. Then at the same time said they heard no issue...lol.

Please let me clarify a few things:
The resonance is not just a noise made by the differential that gets amplified. It's a combination of inherent gear mesh noise and the natural frequency of the leaf springs, the joining hardware and the differential housing that is attached to the springs. I'm quite sure that if they put the truck on a lift, removed the stock springs and ran the vehicle at the proper speed there would be no noise. Conversely, the springs cannot make the noise by themselves lol. Its when that specific spring gets mounted to that specific differential, the right rpms of the gears are reached and the correct amount of load is applied to the ring gear that the noise occurs through resonance of the entire system.

I have no clue what the changes to the spring were. It could be a slight change in material spec, a slight dimensional change or even a tiny geometry change. Whatever it was seems to be enough to do the trick.

So it's not a noise caused by the gear mesh exactly, it's everything put together at the right speed and load that causes the noise.

Funny. I sold my 2007 Z71 with 200K miles on it when I bought my Taco. Had the same exact throttle feathering wooooooo sound for all 200k miles. I’ll probably miss it when I get mine fixed.

I understand what you are saying, and agree, but the primary noise is coming from the differential. I get that any resonance is a combination of noises. I come from generations of car guys and generations of a family that owned large trucking businesses. I had to start turning wrenches at a young age and have been in my share of diffs. Gear whine is not a new phenomenon. But, I deviated from that path and speak in more generalities now that I’m rusty and no longer free labor for my family. LOL. I appreciate the technical clarification, but again, if the vehicle was right from the factory we would all be on another forum.

Exactly, and i would still have my orange truck instead of the exact same truck (no noise tho) in gray!

Excellent points. I appreciate all the firsthand knowledge you have brought to the thread. Hopefully I’ll be noise free in a week or two! Fingers crossed.....

Hey guys first post here, I just did the t-sb-0013-18 for differential howl noise today. Replaced leaf springs, installed the body mount dampers and noise kit behind the seat drove it for about 50 miles and it seems the noise is gone. Looks like other guys have confirmed the fix too just wanted to everyone know it worked for me. Hopefully you guys get your trucks fixed soon too.
