More logging for final touch ups today. 2 hours of log data to pick through.

Changes to the TCU now shifting from 1-2 and 2-3 faster

    No abnormal trans temps

I admit when @OVTune posts I have no idea what he's saying, but it sounds to me like it will be a lot longer...

I think "And we sang dirges in the dark the day the music died." might be more apropos.

My only concern with the changes to S mode is what it will do to towing. In particular, towing at the upper spectrum of the trucks rated capacity. The truck is placed into S5 or even S4 to prevent over-drive which will result in high trans temps and lack of torque output.

With the converter locked in all gears when placed into S mode, will the truck still be able to handle a few thousand pounds behind it? It may be a bit of an unknown until tested but what are your thoughts? @OVTune

S5 and 6 are overdrive gears
    :p

Also, someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d think it would run cooler being locked. The fluid coupling generates some heat.

True. I should have been more specific. 6th is pretty much worthless when towing. 5th can handle some load, but a substantial load requires the truck to be kept out of over-drive, in 4th.

I would think converter lock up would be ideal for towing and maintaining trans temps.

ECT mode will turn the lock off

With the lock on all torque is transferred straight to the gear and then to the wheel. With slippage you do not get this but can accelerate faster

You guys will see soon ECT mode is setup for best response, D mode pretty much highway or cruising, and S mode is torque mode

This was my thought exactly, however converter lock up in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd may make for a difficult time moving a heavy load when you're getting up to speed. Maybe I'm over thinking the situation, but towing was the first thing that came to mind when he mentioned lock up in all gears while in S mode.

    What about heat?

Fluid coupling is basically a pump. A pump generates a bunch of heat.

I’d think it would run cooler locked.

It will, and you want it locked in higher gears for just that. Where a locked converter isn't necessarily your friend (while towing at least) is in the lower gears when you need torque which is only available at higher RPM. The converter allows you to get into that prime torque range easier while in those lower gears, i.e. accelerating while towing a heavy load. It does indeed generate heat, however this is mitigated by the locked converter status once you're cruising down the highway. A trans cooler is also a good idea, which the trucks with a tow package come with.

@OVTune does this mean the release tonight is unlikely?
