I looked again and can't see where you would put those thin strips you are talking about. Also, is there supposed to be anything on the ends of the latch rail to keep water from running out of there??
EDIT: discostu - your rails look NOTHING like mine!!

That's what I was saying. aparently there are 2 model numbers of the same cover so maybe they changed it slightly. I put exterior calling under mine the whole way. Lots so it squeezed out then with a wet rag wipe it away thing. So far problem

    Thank you Tecoma, et al!
The tips on this foum have been invaluable :)

1/ The BakFlip MX4 can be installed in a virtually water proof manner "Without Caulking".
2/ The BakFlip MX4 allows uninterrupted use of the OEM Cargo Divider (with a little trimming and shimming...)

I followed Tecoma's guidance, installing my MX4 using gaskets and weather stripping. No caulking. Took the Taco thru a high pressure car wash. Not a drop of water got in. I may still install a tailgate seal, but for now it doesn't seem necessary.

I also trimmed the end of my Cargo Divider (took off about 1/2" on each end) and added 3/8" spacers to the brackets (with brackets upside down) to allow me to use the cargo divider. I've already had occasion to slide the CD back to front and front to back for a variety of cargo sizes and it works seamlessly. The only thing I need at this point is longer fastening bolts to accommodate the 3/8" spacer/lift on each side.

    See Pics ...

Howzit, Im new to this & I just installed my MX4. I had a question about the tailgate. When you open your tailgate, do you have to help pull the tailgate down? When I open the tailgate, its like the tailgate gets stuck on the weather stripping of the MX4, which is like resting on the tailgate.

I don't like the idea of drilling through my bed for the drain tubes. What would happen if you didn't install them? Just water in the bed? I primarily want the cover so I can load some gear in the back and not get it stolen.

If I were to drill through the bed, it's just through a plastic bed? Where does the water dump onto?

Yup water in the bed. And if you put them in, just end up under the truck.

I was trying to avoid drilling a big hole in my bed and originally installed a smaller drain (see earlier pot). In heavy rains when water can settle on the cover, the drain wasn’t large enough to handle the excess water and I got leaking. I recently upgraded to a solution recommended by another forum member and I’m very happy with the result.

You tighten the elbow by reaching up between the cab and the bed and use a screwdriver in the nut usning the tabs on the nut I used a short piece of clear hose so I can check for clogs.

The elbows can be found in the electrical department (with the conduit) at Home Depot:

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Carlon-1-2-in-90-Liquidtight-Fitting-LN20DA-CTN/100404121

Note that the offset of the elbow doesn’t match the exit of the drain from the rail. I suggest mounting the elbow and inch or two below where installed mine. I already had holes at this location from the previous drain solution.

Thanks for sharing that, tekoma. Something I'll definitely consider.

I used the brass fittings but now I got my bed mat and they aren't long enough so I think I'm going this method

Do you have a link for tailgate gasket kit or know where you got it? Also I got the same size foam as you did because Lowe’s had nothing smaller. Is there a problem at that size? Just installing mine today. I got the fibermax

I didn’t really install my tailgate gasket right, but it works. There are others in this thread who have pics of the correct solution. I got mine here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CN5QG8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

As far as the thicker foam under the rails, it causes the rails to want to twist down in toward the bed a little. I still have the thicker foam installed though and it has relaxed and flattened out.

Has anyone else who bought their cover in December received their $50 rebate from Bak Industries yet?

Yes, just a little though. But it’s designed to be able to open and close without opening the cover.

That foam strip was key. I have it all installed. Looking at it that makes a ton of sense to have. Can’t wait to see how it holds up to weather.

Get inside the bed (preferably at night), close the cover, and have someone walk around the truck with a light, and look for light leakage between cover and bed.

Off topic but what hardware and knob did you use to mount the jack to the mount itself? Looks way easier than a 3/4” nut
