We towed this thing home recently and had zero problems. I use a weight distribution hitch and it rides nice and steady on the highway. 3,400lbs dry, 4,600 loaded.

Awww Man ! Am I encouraged to see this !
I don't have 2K miles on the '17 and have not hooked up my 19' Bambi yet.
Till I saw your post, I was having my doubts of it's capabilities.

I use a Reese Dual Cam with #600 lb bars.
On my past Taco's I've run Timbrens and Sumos and prefer the Timbren in the rear.

What did you do for a brake controller ?
My Gen2 & Bambi were happy with a Prodigy 2, I was thinking Redarc this time around though....

You on the Air Forum ?

What is your gas mileage like? I've got a flat-nosed trailer and I get between 13-15... does the V-nose help out any?

Would I be able to comfortably tow a 3000-4000lb bass boat? The trailer doesn't have trailer brakes on it.

This question has a lot to do with distance and land topography. I would comfortably pull a 5500 lb trailer a couple hours to a local camp ground but I would not take it cross country or through the mountains. 3 to 4000 lbs I would comfortably take cross country.

i have a fantasy of buying a 2018 Tundra. Going on a road trip with the Tacoma to pickup said truck, and towing the Tacoma back home with the new Tundra.

It'll tow it just fine. You'll want and appreciate having brakes. And I believe they are required over 3000lbs in CA.

Thanks. I found out exact numbers.

Hull weight is 1200. Motor weight is 450. Trailer can't be more than 600. I'll definitely look to install trailer brakes in the future but I need to buy the boat first then tow it home lol

As someone stated above, I think there are laws about trailer weights requiring brakes.
I know I have seen/known people who have towed pretty large boats with only a 4 pin trailer, however.
I think the it might be part of the tow rating specification but I can't remember now.
Maybe someone will be kind and fill in the gaps for me here but more brakes can't be a bad idea ever.

not all brakes are electric , some trailers have surge brakes on the trailer .

That weight you'll be totally fine to tow home. With weight more in the 2000 range like that, you probably don't absolutely need brakes, and I bet you're ok legally as well. But, IMO, a trailer with good functioning brakes is always better than one without. Whether or not it's actually worth the expense and upkeep is different for every situation.

Likely that those boats you see have surge brakes, which don't require an electrical signal from the tow vehicle to operate.
