I can't remember if I posted here or elseware but I'm going to Utah May 26th - June 2nd if anyone wants to join. It's going to be less wheeling but mostly beer, tacos, slot canyons, beer tacos and camp fires.

So far the route is Bay Area to Salt Lake City. Some friends who live there are going to join us for a few days south of there. I may or may not go to Moab as it's a holiday weekend and it's going to be crowded. After that we'll make our way west toward Grand Staircase of the Escalante for more camping and slot canyons....lots of slot canyons. After that head home via and undertermined route.

    Sounds fun and good luck!

Just a heads up 108/4/120 passes will not be open by then.

Best bet is to go south through the Tehachapi's.

A guy I workout with goes that route to DV during the winter from here in Sonora.

I guess the 88 or 89 past the south lake would work too.
I've taken the bakersfield route so many times to DV.
    Much prefer the Northern routes.
I'm surprised the high passes are closed with so little snow this year.

Yeah once they close them for the "winter" they don't open them again until spring.

I've heard Caltrans doesn't want to deal with the liability.

My general rule is if it's north of Biship I take the northern route. If it's south of Bishop I go through Bakersfied.

Being in Sac, it takes me about 2 hours to get to the lake.

How many coming from the Bay Area?

I'm expecting it to take a little longer on Bowman Lake Rd. With the recent weather, I'm wondering if ice could be an issue in some spots on the asphalt.

It gets a little hilly going down and there is one spot in particular that could be fun if it's icy. It's a short hill with a decent slope. Didn't have a problem back in Dec, but i can't confirm it was icy. It looked like it could be from the cab, so I went slow.

    Meet at Bass Pro Shop?

It's an open invitation. If you've never been, it offers some great Sierra scenery. Nothing particularly challenging about the trail. The biggest challenge is crossing the creek bed at the washed out bridge.

There is an alternate route out of Nevada City that goes through Graniteville and bypasses the bridge. Interesting drive, but takes a little longer, for me anyway. Might not make much difference coming from the Bay Area.

Cool. Where exactly is it? Which lake? Sorry, I’m not too familiar with the area. So meet up at Bass Pro in Rocklin at what time? I’m coming from Merced area, just let me know what time.

I will most likely head up from Washington Sunday morning if somebody wanted to meet up and take the scenic(dirt) way in.
