I get that. But what I'm trying to figure out is this. Say I buy a pair of Infinity Kappas that come with tweeters. Do the tweeters that come with the Kappas now replace the stock tweeters? Or do they run in parallel? I just ordered the Subaru drop in tweeters, but I'm heavily leaning towards buying these Kappas, but will that negate the need for those Subaru drop ins?

That will be a lot of highs up front. Sell the subby's and put the Kappa's in the stock place. You will need an adapter for the kappa tweeters.

That's what I was trying to find out and wasn't sure about. I'll just cancel the subaru drop in order since it hasn't shipped yet. So I think those tweeters go in the door with the speaker itself though? Do you know the adapter I'll need? Or can I just splice wires for this?

Since the oems are run in series you will need to run the wire from the oem tweeter connector to the crossover and then to the new kappas.

You can put that tweeter anywhere you want but I like the stock location. Either way is going to be a little bit of a pain in the ass because you will have to run a wire back to the oem tweeter location or cut the door panel to mount the tweeter.

The door speakers go through the stock tweeters. Not sure if it still works if you disconnect the dash tweeters but I imagine they would. Either way there are harnesses out there so you don't have to splice.

I think I miss-read the description. I should be able to put them in the stock location. Pain in the ass is likely, but the sound will be well worth it!
Do you know which harness it is? Would it be one of the ones listed below in the products discussed?

********* has a harness and adapter. Seems like a lot for what you are trying to do. Do some more digging if you want to save some. I recommend hitting up crutchfield. You can call them and tell them exactly what you are trying to do and they will get you what you need.

You're going to have to purchase/build an adapter for the stock location.

The speakers I'm getting from crutchfield, but I don't think they provide any tweeter harnesses, just the speaker wiring. I'll check out the *********. I really hate having the stupid JBL shit. Making everything so much more complicated.

I retract all my posts. I don't know a damn thing about the JBL system. Sorry.

The ********* harness might be the ticket. Not sure if I'm even going to install this myself lol. I got quoted about $140 for an install from one shop... But I'm not sure yet. Might have a friend help. This is just becoming a pain in the ass

I'll put up a new thread so I don't derail this thread further and hope I can find someone who's upgraded their JBL system

Speaking from the OP Kicker solution - the tweeters in the dash AND the doors are working. I love this personally - I turn the treble to mid and then stagger up the mids with bass being a notch from max and these settings balance everything out really well. Yes, you'd have too much treble if you had them all at the same level but just take that into account on your EQ and you'll probably be happy. Sounds great

Codyh, it really not that hard even though it looks daunting. It's all the prep work and the time, but once you're in the work, then you do it.

Also, to update folks on my purchase. I am normally an Infinity speaker nut, but this time, I switched and went with a Focal 6x9 fronts Focal IC 690TOY and Focal RCX-165 Rears. I'm pretty sure I won't need a sub for this setup, but I'm going to wait and see if I will need an amp to power them. I have the non-JBL 7" head unit and hopefully, it will power these guys.

Cool. Appreciate the response. I ended up buying the infinity kappas for my fronts and then JLs for the rear. Just going to pay a shop to figure out how to make it work haha.

After a few weeks I can say I am happy. Because our head units are shit for power I didn't see the need for much more than entry level speakers. They have exceeded my expectations at this price point. I got more thump and more clarity which is what I was looking for.

Now if your thinking about amps and head units you will probably want to move up in performance. I thought about doing a head unit but the keeping the steering controls and backup camera cost more than the headunit.

I am thinking a bazooka tube would go good with this setup but space is a premium in these trucks.

Also, with the tweeters.....I see that you said they aren’t plug n play and you ran wire. My question is when you remove the current ones, can you just snip the wires and connect the wires from the tweeters with heat shrink?
