    I've lost count....
Lot's of companies make good uppers, but if you're looking for a great upper I would go with a Rock River Arms....just my opinion though. Either way have fun building your AR!!

since your going with a quality lower, might as well get a quality upper to match.

"Best" is probably Noveske. LMT or CMMG or Spikes are all great uppers.
Edit: IMO, Noveske= best direct impingement LWRC=best piston-operated

If you want 'the best' go to Camp Perry and see who's shooting what....
    then order White Oak Armory.
RRA is pretty good for a production piece.

White Oak Armament's Service Rifle 'CMP' upper is *the* best value National Match grade upper you can get. $750 gets you a 20" stainless Wylde chamber, free float tube, pinned rear sight, 3 hooded apertures, your choice width front sight post.

I started shooting competitive High Power with the WOA and went Distinguished with that upper in a little over 2 years.

Well, choice is good! Any of the uppers listed here will serve you just fine. Get on M4carbine.net or AR15.com and do some more research; after all, it's a lot of money to spend.

You need to ask yourself how you're gonna use it.
    What's your motivation?
some guys want to look like a video game and need a tactical rail with shit stuck all over it.
Some guys are going to compete, 3-gun or CMP Service Rifle.
Some guys want to shoot paper or varmints long range and very precise.
some guys want to go to a gravel pit and shoot cans and oranges.
Some of these needs require a higher level of detail than others.
You will need to determine the sight system, intended ammo(twist rate of the barrel) length and weight you're comfortable with.
Dont' follow somebody that just fixates on a name they saw or whether the castle nut is staked.
There's much more to it than that.
