sooo.... I'm still a little confused... do you think your tailgate solution will also work for a truck cap?

Yep bolt isn't an issue just trying to make suggestions for folks who are nervous. Strong hook and loop I wouldn't worry about and the adhesive should tolerate the heat no problem..

Does your call offer a perpo unlock option? If so I imagine it would be something similar to this but with different linkages

Ordered a couple of actuators on Amazon. Will probably get into this project this weekend. Might fab up a 3d mount instead of drilling into that piece. Although that seems to be easiest.

No. If hooked up incorrect it will just be backwards(Locking on unlock command, vice versa) just swap the wires around until you find it working correctly.

Well if someone doesn't buy the pop and lock off our wedding registry, looks like I'm gonna be doing this instead. If only I had a CNC mill, I'd just make my own pop and lock out of billet aluminum.

youd just need to machine the bracket, like Meso said, that's what youre payin for.
Now the fact that he didn't 3D print some robot arm to lock and unlock his tailgate is another story.... or at least printed a perfect little box for the actuator, instead of that janky box

    Hey now...
Take a look again at those plastic welds I did on that box. Stacking dimes. And to my defense, I did not have a super duper printer at my disposal at the time of the post.

You don't need a box. You can mount the actuator right to the metal. I decided to enclose mine to cut down on the loud clunking sound it makes when operating. But to answer your question, look on Amazon/eBay there are a number of little plastic boxes usually labeled for "DIY electronics"

I bought the same actuator, different box. And some sound deadener. Should have it all by mon/tues. Then she goes in. Looking forward to it.

The only problem with this I see is, no disconnect if you want/need to take the tail gate off. I'll be adding some connector at the camera location.

What did you use to attach the box/actuator to your tailgate? I anticipated the actuator being threaded but the front two are just holes straight through and the back only about 1/2" deep or so. Did you use bolts to go straight through? Or oversized screws and self thread it in there?
