Frontiers are nice little trucks, but the interior are extremely cramped and extremely dated, I'm amazed that Nissan hasn't changed their design of the truck yet, on the other hand Tacomas are just down right sexy trucks inside and out, even if you're looking at a base model tacoma they still look good and radiate the fun factor. I'd say go out there and eat a taco, I mean buy one!!

    None! (so far...)
I bought a 2.7l 2017 SR. I did so after looking over several dealerships in the area for what they had (I bought used). First thing right off the bat I noticed were there were about four or five Frontiers for every Tacoma on their lots. Test drove both and knew why that was so.

Snap a picture of the neighbor, post it up, and let the forum decide if she deserves a Taco or a Nissan.

    Problem solved.

    .

I have had several years of both. You will get a better deal on the Nissan, the 4.0 is good and the Nissan tailgate is stronger.

However, IMO, the Nissan is not in the same quality category and the parent company is not even close to Toyota.

I will stick with Toyota

Agreed. post her up. Tacos attract Tacos...seriously..its true.
I've privately longed to start a "post a pic of your woman" thread... or maybe a "what has your girlfriend modified today" thread but have been too afraid of the possible backlash.

I was also in mexico a week ago and saw lots of old Nissan hardbodies as well as the newer international frontier. No doubt its a solid and reliable truck. Keep in mind that Nissan will probably release a new frontier in a couple years which will decrease your resale value further. Tacoma is in the early years of its new cycle.

Also for a couple grand more you could get a TRD Off Road or sport, which i think is a great value for the standard features.

I had a 2007 Frontier LE CCLB that I bought new in 2006. I looked at Tacomas at the time, but the throttle response and overall road driving experience of the Frontier leaned me over to the Frontier. I also had a bit of Frontier bias since I was coming from a 2002 Frontier XE CCLB 5spd.

I bought the truck fully loaded with everything it could have except 4x4 (yea regrets were made, but that's how we learn right?). I LOVED that truck. I had plans to drive it till the wheels fell off, but ended up getting rid of it in 2014. The size of the truck was not fitting in well with my life changes at the time after moving from suburbia to a beach town tight on parking and with street widths that weren't ideal for u-turns with that long wheel base. I sold it at somewhere around 100k miles.

The good: It was a comfortable ride, the powertrain was a beast, it was reliable and had few issues.
The bad: If you looked at the interior the wrong way, it would scratch. The suspension started to squeak after some time, like before even 30k miles I wanna say, but it was just annoying and not a functional issue. I went through TPMS sensors maybe 3 times in the <100k miles I had it, but I don't blame the truck's build quality for that. The worst part: I sold the truck to a friend and shortly after it got the dreaded Nissan tranny coolant issue that plagued Frontiers, Xterras and Pathfinders.

Now I have recently acquired a 2015 Tacoma Off Road DCSB 4x4 (yep, wasn't going to make the 2wd mistake again!). This time, I'm pledging to really drive this one till the wheels fall off (got the short bed this time so it fits more places ;)).

On Tacoma vs Frontier (from my experience):
    Interior:
Toyota build quality is ever so slightly better, not by much and honestly both Nissan and Toyota have been pretty boring with their trucks up until the 3rd gen Tacos imo -- but the 3rd gen Tacoma only seems like an improvement because they went from 2005-2015 doing nothing pretty much no major upgrades in that time, heck they REMOVED features as the years went on to 2015! Tacoma feels roomier on the inside, but I think mostly because the Frontier is "plushier" with a bulgier dash and seats. In the Frontier's seats you sit more upright at a 90 degree bend at your legs than in the Tacoma, at least I do/did at about 5'10".

    Style:
I think the Tacomas look more aggressive and off-road capable, and I strongly believe they ARE more off-road capable. The Frontier hasn't changed much from 05-now, slight grill, hood, and headlight changes plus a spoiler on the tailgate I believe since 05.

    Powertrain:
I think they're pretty equally matched on reliability and performance. Nissan's 4.0 felt beefier, but at the end of the day they're both more than capable for a mid-size truck. Nissan did have that auto trans coolant issue tho so, I'll tip the hat to Toyota here.

    Comfort:
As it's already been stated before, I think the Frontier rides more like a car and is more comfortable. If you want a truck that feels like a truck, get the Tacoma. I did the second time around.

    Aftermarket:
Tacoma wins hands down. There are options for Nissans, but not nearly as many as there are for Toyotas.

    Utility:
The Frontier had a deeper bed I think, and cleat rails on the floor. The Tacoma has that AC outlet in the bed and those little cubbys. I could load my ATVs on my Frontier's tailgate without worrying about wrecking the gate tho.

    Value:
The Frontier gets you more features and creature comforts for your buck IMO. The Tacoma is much more "analog" and bare and Toyota doesn't seem to care because people still buy them. See resale value below.

    Resale:
Tacoma holds its value better than the Frontier despite the Frontier getting you more for your money. I paid something like $28k for my Frontier back in 2006 and I think it KBB'd somewhere around $14k when I sold it in 2014 at ~100k miles. Not bad, but I when I was in the market for my Tacoma recently, I was still finding 2011 Tacomas with ~110k miles going for $18k.

I loved my Frontier, it was a comfy truck and it held up well while I had it. Despite that, I now have a Tacoma -- and I feel like I have exactly what I am looking for in a truck at this point in my life.

I don't think you can go wrong either way, but if you're going to get a Frontier, don't pay Tacoma prices. At the end of the day, drive them both, pay attention to the areas important to you.

Again, my experience is strictly from the perspective of:
    - 2007 Frontier LE crew cab long bed 2WD to 2015 Tacoma Off Road double cab short bed 4x4, both V6 4.0.
    - 12 years difference from the time I bought my Frontier to the time I got into a Tacoma
    - my needs/wants which may be MUCH different than yours. I always wanted something I could tow with, and occasional off-road with, hence the V6 for the former and the [then] regret but now 4x4 for the latter.

    I had a 06 Tacoma Sport 4x4.
    I now have a 16 Frontier Pro 4x.

The Tacoma was a good truck (till it got totaled). Back in December 2016 Toyota dealerships were not budging or negotiating the prices of the Tacoma. Nissan was on the Frontier. I like the fact that the Nissan is not as long or wide as the new Tacoma. I hope when the new Frontier comes out it stays the same size as it is today.

Yes, the Frontier is dated. It does not have all the electronic wiz bang stuff the new Tacoma's have. Yes, Tacoma's have a better resale value, but you pay more to own one to begin with. So if you purchase another Tacoma with a Tacoma trade, what have you really gained?

In the end price and the ride/ drivability of the Frontier convinced me on the Nissan. Both are good trucks. One is currently more updated that the other. It is a personal choice.

Frontier would be better value. You're getting more standard features and a more powerful engine with 4x4. You could negotiate a better discount on the Frontier. Reliability is about the same as Tacos. Only 05-09 Frontiers were prone to a radiator leak contaminating and destroying the Auto-Transmission. A better comparison would be an SR5 4x4 that you could negotiate down to $29k.

Make sure you drive them both and consider how well it fits you. I'm 6'3" and 235 and will tell you I don't fit in the Frontier. The Colorado doesn't even fit my shoulders week but in the Tacoma I have plenty of room.

Theoretically, Nissan will be releasing the new Frontier/Navara in the United States in late 2018. It is supposed to be built in Mississippi.

titan front control arms will bolt up on to the frontier for a cheap long arm upgrade. I had a 2nd gen xterra and i really liked it, powerful engine decent handling, terrible sparse interior. that being said i love my tacoma.

Years ago I cheaped out and bought a Nissan 4x4 instead of a Toyota, Hugh mistake! Got rid of it after a couple of years and never bought a Nissan again. Years later my kid bought a Nissan despite my warnings and he had nothing but troubles. I’m not saying Toyota’s are perfect but my family’s track record with Nissan was crappy.
