Fucked Up & Need Help - Electrical

So I did this. The horn wouldn't turn off. Got yanked out and disconnected the battery for 20 minutes or so. Truck wouldn't even get the starter to click but dash lights would come on. Pulled off a wire with a white wrapping off the positive battery terminal; every time it would touch the positive terminal it makes this super high pitch screaming sound. Was able to get it started by touching that wire and turning it over at the exact same time. It ran and drove fine, but while driving, even with the white wire disconnected, it continued to make that screeching sound. The horn would also randomly go crazy. I got back to camp, turned it off, now it's dead again.

Anyone have any advise?

 

Where is the high pitch sound coming from? Is it metal on metal or electrical?

How did you do that?

 

Electrical, and can't tell tbh it's echoing

Is it a grinding sound? Probably internal starter issue. You can pull it and test it. Or unplug the black wire running to the starter solenoid and then reconnect that white wire and see if the sound is gone. Or pull the starter fuse.

 

Na it's a high pitch whine. The starter is fine, someone touched this wire:


To the positive terminal and i turned it over simultaneously and it ran and drove just fine, just continued to have that high pitch noise and the horn randomly went off

I disconnected the positive battery terminal. I'll touch that same wire, and the horn would go off. I pulled the horn fuse, now when I touch that wire to where the positive terminal connects, it makes that same high pitch noise

What does the white wire go to?

IT just goes into the bottom of the box I have no idea

 

Flush your alt with fresh water. Might have mud/silt in it. You can pull the belt and then restart it and see if noise is gone. That will point to one of the accessories causing the noise.

 

The truck was able to drive for 20 minutes with no power surges which makes me think it's not the alternator

Unfortunately not relatable but dang he got deep! Kinda wishing I could just pull the spark plugs rather than chasing an electrical issue...

 

Kinda sounds like you have water in the horn

 

Horn was on the uo side when I sunk the truck. And don't know how that would keep it from starting. With the horn fuse pulled in video 2 you can still see the noise the fuse wire touching the battery makes

 

It doesn’t look like that white wire was factory. If you remove the fuse box cover can you see where the white wire connects?

 

I have been without a horn for about 2 years because it would continuously go off but I wasn't going in water holes. Was thinking the horn relay.
