What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Haha I'm not very savvy with this stuff, big learning experience for me haha @Adude

 

If you look at my photo posted earlier, that was the bolt, the bolt sleeve fused to the bolt and the bushing fused to the bolt sleeve.

What I did was used a drill to remove material until the bushing and sleeve come out, if you don't have a way to press it out.
I also cut out the outer sleeve as the bushing wouldn't fit with it in there.

Also, from the photo you posted about getting the bolt out, how are you supporting your truck?
Bottle jack on the diff with jackstands supporting the truck?
Does not compute....

 

In the only spots they will fit, short ones on the leafs long ones on the truck

 

2 6 tons on the frame right behind the front hanger then 2 3 tons holding up axle the bottle jack is there if I need to lift the axle

 

That's a WTF if there ever was one.

 

So both in the rear though? On the new greasable shackle provided by OME?

 

Figured out my squeaky belt problem Off to Toyota in the morning.

Also, reading about y'alls experience with those leaf spring bolts is making me want a sawzall. Here's hoping I won't need it though

 

Looks to me like you used a "Steve" there to remove the bolts, @Blackdawg. He used a cut-off, just sayin'. Now I'm also wondering if you do any of the work on your truck. Or if maybe Steve is on here, logged in as you. . Though, I guess I did see you under Frank a few times.

Yeah I think the cutoff wheel was pretty easy, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Just brought a new Tacoma into the family. My Dad replaced his 96 ext cab 5-speed with a 2001 double cab.

those look like the internal supports for the tailgate.. i think theyre suppose to be welded in...

 

I just cut them out with tin snips... if they haven’t been doing their job they won’t be missed...

 

Welder had been on a bender the night before!!

 

Those are just braces. You can see where they were poorly welded to the tailgate skin.

Both of mine have been busted and floating around in there for at least 15 years.

 

need high powered reverse lights...

 

Generator and some of those harbor freight halogen work lights should take care of that. Also the JDM astar reverse bulbs on Amazon are a good second choice too
