I don't know about getting the MT for reliability. For me, you get it because it's damn fun to drive and is the best way to take advantage of the new engine, imo.

If youre relying on a bias article for your purchase of a vehicle.... how can we take you serious? Use your own opinions and buy it if you want it. There’s facts/statistics out there for this truck.. dont listen to no opinions. There’s a reason why they hold great value. Worst case scenario is you dont like it , you aint losing much money.

Consumer Reports are the primary reason Suzuki never recovered in North America, after CR put out a false report about the Samurai having issues flipping over. Video evidence proved they couldn't get it to under the failure criteria they put all others through so they pushed the speed limit higher until it finally did. They lost a lawsuit in court, but the damage was done. The company still hasn't changed their ways. CR isn't a review place I'd ever trust.

Hold onto it until the Ranger comes out. I am totally let down by this trucks lack of grunt coupled with it's lack of power, and after having an F150 EB I am confident that the Ranger will be a solid go to. I considered trading for a Colorado, but no. This Toyota may have all the longevity and reliability of Toyota....but everyone has caught up in the industry. Toyota has let themselves falter. Reliability is the same across the board. I am hedging my bets on ford owing the competition with the new Ranger. Once it comes out I am getting rid of this gas guzzling piece of metal and going back to Ford. I cannot live with 16mpg when the thing has no balls. It is fine and exceptional off road, but daily driving sucks money out of my wallet for sub par performance.

Why not buy CR’s best rated 2018 truck, the F150?

I know right. I mean the Tacoma has never had to compete in a market with both the Colorado and the Ranger before.

I’m betting the Tacoma won’t make it.

Not sure if this is sarcasm, but IIRC, the Tacoma did from 2005 - 2011 when both Colorado and Rangers were being produced. Yes?

    Yes it was sarcasm.

And considering the Tacoma comes close to outselling the Colorado, Canyon, Frontier and Ridgeline COMBINED I don’t think Toyota is shaking in their boots over the Ranger joining the party again.

I’m sure there will be some bro-losses to the Ranger Raptor, but I’m thinking the Tacoma will be fine.

Oh and to stay on topic, CR sucks

Almost 2 years for me, also without a test drive - no regerts.

Somebody mentioned the "funky transmission" (AT). I actually really like it, myself!

It's fantastic for snow, and that's coming from decades of driving a MT. In Sport mode, you can limit how many gears you're actually using. Tonight it's snowy and icy out, so I kept in S3 (gears 1-3 only) so I could limit my speed using the tranny instead of the brakes. Sport mode's great for the mountains, too.

I love my truck but there are some characteristics I wasn't expecting.

-The strange high idle after coming to a stop if you have the fan on. Never had a car that did this so I thought the truck was broken at first.
-Prolonged shifts, especially early on. Getting used to it (and transmission seems to be learning).
-Shudder/clunk on deceleration. Usually the first or second of the trip, then it smooths out.
    -Lack of low-end torque.

I'm was just used to driving a V6 Accord which is as smooth as butter.

That being said this truck has plenty of high-end torque. Accelerating from 50mph/80kph is smooth and powerful.

I bought mine without a test drive. Had a 07 that got totaled in 2013. Waited and 2016 got a 17 TRDOR 6spd manual. Only thing I would change is no sunroof. I'm 6ft and wearing a hat it hits the headliner. But that's it. Go get it and go places!

Hope you don't take as long reasearching things for the little one, 3 months and the little one is not so little any more. After 3 months if you are letting the CR mess with your desire to purchase a new taco, I suggest you don't buy one, we don't want to have another under satisfied taco owner out there.
