Yeah, the seats in my '91 SR5 4X4 3.0 are better in every way than the ones in my '17 TRD OR. More adjustable, (including backrest width adjustment!) way more comfortable, and how the hell do I have more headroom in my way smaller truck? I'm 6'3" and I'm really struggling to get the driver's seat into a good position. It's ridiculous.

Limited wheels, extra rope hooks in bed.
I've not liked the seating position since day one....Getting used to it now but it could be a lot better.....6 ft.

Steering wheel too far away when I slide the seat back to get some leg room.

Heck my 1997 standard cab was more comfortable.

If you have a Offroad Pkg my understanding is the lower cushion is firmer and 1 inch higher than the SR5. Something I noticed even though I am about 5'9". Test drove a SR5 but bought a Offroad.

What 01 dhrracer said. Take it to an upholster and have them shave some seat foam

One scary thing about this mod, the seatbelt is hooked to the seat, so please don't use aluminium like the guy on the Tundra forum did. If you crash, you'll also fly...

Thanks....I think I might try this. In looking at the factory brackets, I think new ones could easily be fabricated for both the front and rear. I would drop the front a little less than the rear...maybe 1/2" front and 1" or 1 1/2" on the rear. Agree with above post that the brackets need to be steel.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why Toyota wouldn't do this as part of the design and include a simple manual crank height adjustment. There IS room to lower the seat about 2". Cost to add this feature for Toyota couldn't be more than a couple of dollars. C'mon man!

Need to find a way to lower seat or get a new seat that’s lower
Anyone find a solution to this?

Any seat swaps that are worth looking into?

I’m surprised no one has found a seat swap that works... or some customs job with out replacing the brackets.

I've felt the same way about the seating position. Once I get comfortable with the leg room the steering wheel feels to far away. Very frustrated with the seating position in this truck. I'm 6 foot.

I believe it was a 16 or 17 frs, not super positive though.

i had a local upholstery shop recontour my seat foam. they carve down a bucket from the underside of the foam. it dropped me a little and gave a very comfortable position. it was so bad before that i planned to sell the truck. totally fixed for $200. I'm 6'1" long and lanky.

Just looked at my seat mounts. One possible solution might be this. If you see where rail mounts to floor mount. You could scribe around rail on mount, then cut floor mount on scribed lines. Then the rail would be able to drop down, so top of rail would be flush with top of floor mount. Then you would have to weld mount to rail. Yes it would have to be out of truck to weld, but mock up in truck. Seat would be lowered roughly 3/4". Just a thought a thought.

Thanks so much for the replies guys! Means a lot! I’ve been scouraging on the net for solutions and with no luck for weeks. It’s nice to finally know some one who actually did the customization and it worked!! I’m definitely going to explore the Scion seats and firstly see if I can just trim them. As for the mount option I think that’s great to know if the first two don’t work or add it on top as a bonus extra almostninch of space. Keep you posted guys! I’m hoping to solve this and be able
To help all the fellow tall people who love Tacoma’s.
