I don't know for sure, but personally I would hunt down a 17.

Some have had their dealerships replace, others say it's normal. Some even had the howl cone back after replacing. The CPS shit was a bigger todo IMO.

Maybe it will be better in the MT 2018s. Fingers crossed.

I don’t want to get a new vehicle looking for issues that aren’t there, either. Thanks tacomaworld! Lol

I ordered my 17 Sport Manual Trans, then joined TW. I doubt I would have gotten a new Taco if I had been on TW before ordering.

Btw, I can assure everyone I’m not a troll. I’m coming from a ‘15 apr tuned GTI and want something more rugged and ... well a truck. Dad had a 1st gen taco and drove into the ground. Always loved them. But if they really have all these issues and it’s likely I’ll get them in a MT sport or OR, I may have to reconsider. 35k to me is a lot to gamble with so yes, anything I read from a big pub, even if they suck I will wonder about. Just trying to make a safe purchase here. You’d think with Toyota this wouldn’t even be a question!

@ejewels just buy a RAV4 or a Highlander. Drives more like a car, has Toyota reliability and can be had in AWD, plenty of space for the new kinder schnitzel, easier for the wife and you to get them in and out of the carseat.

Now that you're a new dad, it's going to be a few years before you get to have exactly what you want.

If I could go back and do it all over again, would I have gotten a Gen 3 Tacoma? No. I would have bought a Tundra.

Guess I’m not hardcore enough to own a effin Tacoma. And yes, joining a taco forum to educate myself before buying is clearly a stupid move.

I understand your cynicism, but if there are donations being made, it's not from GM, who Consumer Reports absolutely hammers over their quality issues.

Take the carseat to the dealership and have the wife try putting the kid in and out of the different cars and trucks then buy what she likes best.

You want hardcore, try living with a pissed off new mother.

I bought a 2016 TRD Sport on 12/28/16. It's my first Tacoma. I'm a very picky/finicky guy who is very hard to please when it comes to vehicles.
That being said, I absolutely love this truck! My only regret is not owning one sooner!
Comfortable, reliable, capable on and off road, and very easy on the eyes!

My 17 TRD Sport is my 5th Tacoma in the last 20 years, and in addition I've owned several Lexus sedans and SUVs in the same time frame. All of them have been exceptionally reliable and a joy to own and drive. As far as the 17 Tacoma goes as compared to the previous four, it is by far my favorite. Not to mention the stellar resale value.

These trucks aren’t perfect - and may require a bit of maintenance. but if you want a midsized truck that can handle about any terrain your throw at it, get acceptable mileage on the highway, with the ability to pull a few thousand pounds with a bed for hauling stuff with a narrow enough wheelbase to be nimble on trails or in the city, paired with the latest tech - you won’t find a better truck than the Taco. Another great way to test this is to visit the competition’s forums - you’ll quickly see the Tacoma crowd is large, anything you need to do to your truck has been done and your questions can be answered and the aftermarket is incomparable...
