So I finally put my fork mounts on my Undercover! I just cut PVC pipe in 1/2 and sprayed it with bedliner to hold the rear wheels down. It is pretty good. Took a ride on some trails today too. Finally getting comfertable with a bike again. Hit some pretty good drop off hills, and a few jumps as well. I am really getting into riding again!!!

Picked up my first bike. Got a Trek 4300 with disc brakes. Didn't want to go overboard and spend a shit load of money so it fits me well. Had been watching CL for months hoping to snag a higher end used bike at a good price, but nothing ended up coming a long. Just came back from a 5 mile trail ride to break her in. I'm so out of shape haha. Naturally there's better out there, but like I said I'm new to the sport.

You can always upgrade on your components. Get a good sturdy frame first. Components such as disc brakes, front and rear derailler are two very important components of the bike. For the price range, I would go for a good hardtail bike. CL is a great place to find a used bike also. Good luck!

I did break a rear wheel already though lol. I have to dial down my big hits when Im on my FSR.

Bought my first mountain bike yesterday, they are putting it together today and I'm picking it up tomorrow.

I got a 2010 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp, I don't know a whole lot about it because I'm new to mountain biking, but it just felt right compared to some of the other bikes I tried.

I started mtn biking in California in the early 80s. Went through Schwinn (cheap back then) Diamondback (way too short in the top tube) then to a Stumpjumper Team (89) that I built and rebuilt and customized until it was incredible. That was stolen from my garage once I had it perfect. Then I got the first Trek Y22 in Oregon and thought it was great, for a $3,000 bike. Kept it for 12 years. Came to the conclusion I'm not a competition biker and buying new state of the art bikes was a waste. I don't need dual suspension, and if you insist on a Deore group minimum, you'll probably be just fine for 90% of the riding you do. End of story- buy used, and buy to match your own abilities.

Thanks guys! TW helped finance part of it :D, used the money I made from making some members Satoshi's.

I tried buying used, been looking for the past 2 1/2 months but everything locally was a little overpriced so that's the only reason I went new. That and I got a great deal since I convinced a few others they needed new bikes too :p.

Any recommendations on what to buy the gf? She is insisting on a FS bike too now

 LOL. To clear the air, I got it from a buddy who used to race professionally. He's got more than enough bikes and has a really hard time getting rid of them. I was able to convince him that he didn't need the stumpy anymore.

Bought my first mountain bike on friday, Haven't got a chance to tear up any trails yet way too sore from running a 7.5 mile race after not training at all for it... So excited for the awesomeness that is sure to follow with this purchase. Any advice or opinions on what essentials, equipment, or gear I should buy to start off with? Here she is :)

Juast getting into mountain biking. I will be buying my first bike and want to stay around 500-600. I want a bike with a color combo similar to the santa cruz above. I think a hard tail will be better for me since i wont be doing anything crazy at first but i do want something with good components in case i get crazy into this and want to upgrade parts. A local bike dealer showed me a mongoose otero soft tail in white that I liked but I am clueless on whats for me. Help me out with some suggestions.
