    haha...here's an update - I was about 8 minutes into my first flight with the Air (not my first drone) when it seemed to shut down and dropped into the middle of a raging river and was gone! I was about 30 feet above the river, so no, I didn't fly into it by accident. Just shut off and dropped like a shot pigeon. I had just checked and it said 61% battery life about 1 minute before. I've contacted Drone World to see what they say, but I'm guessing that was the most expensive 8 minutes I'll ever spend.

    I want to get into flying drones for fun but I'm torn between building and buying. I want to start with something small and cheap, probably just to fly line of sight and then get into a fpv rig later. Unless i can start with fpv for under $300ish.

    Any suggestions?

    I'm reading through a couple reddit threads and any sites that leads me to currently.

    Are you looking for a camera style rig for photography or something to fun to fly for freestyle or racing?

    So I started off line if sight. I knew I wanted to get into it but didn't have money right off the bat. So instead of going fullsize, I went micro.

    I got an inductrix
    https://www.getfpv.com/micro-quadcopters/micro-rtf-bnf/inductrix-rtf-with-safe-technology.html

    From there I got some more batteries for flying time and was racing it around the house and it's a blast.

    After, I added a camera to it and got some goggles. That's about $50 for the micro, $30 for the camera, and $100 for the goggles. Easy add on, it's a quick solder.

    The next step is something like this

    Radio
    https://www.getfpv.com/frsky-taranis-q-x7-2-4ghz-16ch-transmitter-black.html

    Quad with camera already
    https://betafpv.com/products/beta65s-bnf-micro-whoop-quadcopter

    Goggles
    https://www.getfpv.com/fpv/video-go...5-8g-40ch-diversity-fpv-goggles-with-dvr.html

    Fullsize

    I have $100 into a radio, $90 into a charger (can be done a bit cheaper) $100 in goggles, and thats the start. Im a fan of building because irs fun and really helps come repair time. I build mine slowly over time as I had my micro. I'd vote the middle option I gave because that'll get you half waythere with the radio. Sorry this is a bit incoherent. 3rd shift life and just woke up

    Last one @Adventurer_Alex .

    https://fpv-freerider.itch.io/fpv-freerider

    100% best investment I made. It's a drone simulator. Grab the laptop or computer, get this for about $10 And hopefully you have a PlayStation controller. If not, consider it an investment. You can plug the controller into you comp with a usb to fly.

    The controls are really foreign at first and you will crash a ton, but once you get it you will progress really really quick. They have mini races that I took slow to build mechanics, and it got a lot more fun once I had the basics down because then I could crank flip, split s, all the fun stuff see Ledrib, skitzo, Mr steele and all those guys do.

    https://youtu.be/7oYLynvjeeA

    Good luck. Its worth every penny. Tons of fun. And feel free to ask any questions you'd like.

    So, as expected, DJI doesn't stand behind their product. They go through the motions of 'analyzing the data', but I never believed for one minute they would accept responsibility. Even though there was nothing to 'crash' into anywhere near me, this is what they say happened. I let them know I plan to put up a video on my YouTube channel, which has views in the hundred-thousands describing the DJI experience. Turns out it was 11 minutes for $1000. Good luck to anyone who buys the Air, I really do hope it goes better for you.
    But hey, they will "try" to apply a 15% discount if I'm up for losing another wad of cash.

    " we have already finished the analysis, and the result is as follows:
    1. The aircraft worked under GPS mode after taking off, the home point: 42.9979223 -72.3109712;

    2. The pilot pushed the pitch stick forward and the throttle stick up, at t=10:26,h=-13.3 m,d=134 m, the aircraft crashed while flying forward and ascending, the incident point: 42.9969392 -72.3119254;

    According to the analysis, the incident happened due to the pilot's misoperation. Please pay attention to the flight environment.

    We truly appreciate your support for DJI. If you could not recover the aircraft and consider to purchase another one, we can try to especially apply a 15% off discount for Mavic Air(Arctic White) without charger and remote. If you would like to take the offer, please offer us the following info:

    'flying forward and ascending'... did they see the video and note the lack of obstacle?

    Unfortunately there was no video because the drone is deep in the river somewhere.
