I can say that this seems to be right on. I let my truck idle for 5 minutes after flash, turned off the truck, then started it and went for a drive. I do not have any idle issues thus far. Idle sits solidly about 6-700 rpm when warm.

I'll use my OBD to minutes it more closely.

I'm pretty sure I'll be going to my off road area after work to test 4lo. I'll try and get some video clips and keep a close eye and ear on how things react.

I was going to call BS on this, or call it a one off, but I took a couple of 40 mile drives today and I didn't feel a damn thing. Well, maybe something very slight, but nothing I could attribute directly to the tune. The weird thing is the surge was present on my way home from work last night, but I am now right around that 400 mile mark, and I filled up with a fresh tank of 87 this morning.

I'm going to reserve final judgement once I drive it more, but I think the ECU has compensated for something. Why it happened overnight is a mystery.

:fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed: I hope the same happens with my truck, because this stutter is starting to really annoy me on the highway!

    Thanks for posting guys :)

I guess some have more luck. My stuttering at ~2500 isn’t as bad but is noticeable enough for passengers to comment on it.

Looking forward to the reduced throttle version, I think that will make this more fun to drive smoothly. It should also highlight the power when full throttle better.

UPDATE (edited 28/02/18) - While everything below was true at the time, the stutters have returned.

Took Mat's advice and let the truck go to school at idle. Cold to operating temp, didn't touch a thing and it took about 20 min to get there.

First thing I tried after that was 4lo 1st gear to see if the surging was gone - it was. Deleted my previous post with that video. You gotta understand, it was doing the surge yesterday.

Highway drive revealed that the obvious stutter/surge from 2000-3000rpm was either gone or I couldn't notice it over the bumpy damn roads!

    Notes:
    1. I'm still on the same tank as before, 91 E0 gas;
    2. 1.03B 87 loaded;
    3. Mileage since last flash - exact distance unknown, but definitely less than 400 miles.
    4. Weather here today is sunny and +8 Deg C - that's quite a bit warmer than the last few days.

Now, I'm not going to say with any kind of certainty that the idle learning did the trick, or if it was that in combination with the miles of driving. Something changed, and it was definitely for the better.

I'm now going to flash the 91 tune again and start over (I know, fucked right?).

    Two reasons:

    1. I want to further prove/disprove this idle learning hypothesis and reset all the variables; and
    2. I like the 91 tune better :)

Oh, and my low fuel light is on but I'm not going to add any gas just yet (don't want to add variables).

Edit: Flash to 91 file complete, now waiting for the truck to cool off, so it can learn not to be retarded from stone cold. Tick tock lol

Very good to hear. I will give this a go as well later tonight or in the morning. I'm not experiencing these issues as of now, but perhaps this will help them not start at all.

Hey Matt something I noticed. I hooked up the Toyota techstream to clear the codes from flashing and the techstream could not clear them. I got a unsuccessful code clearing window. Tried it a couple of times and gave up. Did another health check and the codes were gone. ???

I'm betting he will. I'm no tuner expert, but I'm sure its a fairly easy fix for him.

Don't get me wrong, it's freaking amazing. Perhaps it will mellow off after some miles, but man, it's so responsive and gritty, in a great way

@OVTune I'm having some trouble with the files downloaded from the flash manager. I was able to download flash manager from the link you posted in here a couple days ago, and I downloaded the 1.03B files from there (both 87 and 91 octane) but PCM keeps giving me the error message below when I try to write either of them to the ECU. It will still let me write any of the older versions that I had previously, it just won't work with any of the ones downloaded from the new flash manager, any ideas?

    Thanks

I love the throttle, and I'm still running a PC set on sport. Can't imagine turning it down - but then again I have been running AC non-stop. Hottest February on record here in FL.

UPDATE ON 1.03B STUTTER ISSUE - FIXED

Well gents, in MY CASE I can call the 400 mile learning thing busted.

As eluded to in my previous post, I wanted to start fresh with the 91 tune and try again. So, after flashing with that file again and allowing the truck to cool off completely, I started it back up sat at idle until fully up to temp (~20 min). I did not touch the throttle or anything that would cause the rpm to change during that period(ie brakes/HVAC controls/steering). Once warmed up, I slowly brought the rpms up and held them at various points such as 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 to see if the engine would surge as it had before - nope.
Got on the road, and to my absolute delight the truck was pulling very smoothly after only ~20 km. Got out on the highway and re-created the same conditions where I had severe stuttering before, now I really have a hard time discerning between bumps in the road and maybe a slight hesitation or two. I'll attribute that to the truck still learning a few things.
The only odd thing I feel now is the slight clunk on lift, and maybe a little weirdness a hair before that (while I'm backing off).
Total distance covered 78km - It was fine way before that, but I was having fun!

Anyway, really glad I flashed back to the 91 file. The difference on the highway pulling in 6th is just awesome :)

TL;DR - Right after flashing your truck, start and let it idle for at least 10 min from cold and don't touch it (according to Mat's posts). It really does need to learn that FIRST.

AS it turns out, following Mat's advice to the letter works.... :hattip:

Sounds great to me! Personally I don't think it would be possible to make the throttle response too quick for my taste on this truck, I'll take it turned up as much as possible!

PM sent, just wasn't sure if I was overlooking some minor step or if I actually had a problem with my download
