Is it really that hard to have done? Seems like a popular mod. Also, any idea of cost? And what about the fact the ARB is better than the stock OR's locker?

That’s why most of us are just busting each other’s balls. There’s also the consideration that a person may not want to alter their vehicle, may not have spare funds, or don’t DIY. So sometimes a person may feel like one is better than the other based on that. But when it comes to modding, I consider it all one platform.

The Sport and the Off Road are almost the same price.
So for the same money you can choose between bling (looks) or traction enhancements.
Your turck will go most places you want.
The traction enhancement let you go relaxed, without other vehicles along, and, as they say:
"It is better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it".
Colored mirrors and a fake hood scoop have never extracted a truck from a stuck or pulled it up a steep grade.

agreed. Its not like MAJOR modifications would be needed to get a manual sport to off road spec. Unless the aftermarket locker is very major. Again, this isn't mustang v6 vs v8 status here lol. Its same platform with minor differences.

oh, and can you tell i just put a deposit down on a sport? hehe.

I can't help but to reiterate the point the OR people have been making. They are the same MSRP. One comes with a locker. The other you have to add to it to get the same capabilities. Hence why most feel the OR is a better VALUE BETWEEN THE SPORT and OR MODELS. This whole thread has been about scoop vs. locker, not really much else.

I feel like this is just a troll thread at this point.

Question for everyone. Is the Locker (which is the biggest upgrade from the OR MT compared to the sport MT, it seems) a part that is common on other makes 4x4's built in the last 5 years? Or is it usually an aftermarket upgrade purchased for people getting more serious or building an off road rig? Serious question, as I'm a noob with off roading and wondering if Toyota in general is ahead of the off road curve.

I agree, but I will say it has been a learning experience for me. So I appreciate everyone who's helped me out in learning. Honestly, if I didn't have to wait 8 weeks I might have gone OR solely on value. But I do love how the sport looks too so it really is a wash to me.

The Sport and Off Road cost the EXACT same price up front, most guys are simply saying that you get more for your money buying the Off Road, all Tacoma's are great trucks.

Oh and if you add a rear locker, make sure to get a front locker too and tell everyone, including Pro owners bye bye lol.

But the off road manual still has the locker and atrac.

is atrac in place of crawl control and the modes that come with the automatic version? Could you upgrade to the equivalent if wanted to from a sport?

You could get an off road and have the dealer throw on a sport hood to add on.

Yes it is the same traction control as crawl control except the driver controls the speed of the truck. I don’t think it can be added to the sport though.

Are you sure you did not pull out a 2016 Sport with a Pro Grille as there is no such thing as a 2016 TRD Pro?

They are the EXACT same price, in addition the OR now includes the colored turn signal mirrors that it did not have on the 2nd Gen.

That’s why I said BASICALLY. Seriously? I’ve already mentioned the locker lol. This is how arguments are started. Read. There are no differences in the trims that keep you from swapping the basic off road shit over.

Many moons ago I had a Subaru Sedan that was front wheel drive with a mechanical locking rear end...you just pulled up a lever and locked it in. That little car when locked in had the best 4WDd traction I've ever seen.

Lots of trucks come with different forms of Locking Rears, they can be electronic, automatic mechanical, selectable etc.

MTS and Crawl use A-TRAC system but require an automatic transmission. MTS is an adjustable A-TRAC and Crawl is a 'cruise control' for low range (no foot on gad pedal or brake, just steer).
