I have the TC midtravel rear with BAMF shock relocation mounts to fit 12 on mine. The rear is stiff currently because I just have a fiberglass tonneau cover with the heavy duty springs on it. I am now looking to get an RTT to help the rear soften up as well being able to sleep better at night. With your set up, the heavy duty springs will work pretty well for you. You wont be able to go all out with this rear end like a full LT rear can, but its a great all around rear that can handle a lot more than a standard SOA will. In case you are interested in this route, this is the cheapest I had found when I got mine. You will likely have to pay tax with being in CA, but shipping is free.

I ordered TC stuff through SDHQ - no tax plus 10% TW discount, have to pay for shipping from AZ though.

I’m also looking for soft rear. What leaf springs would you recommend if I’m not planning to carry a lot of weight?

TC will sell the kit with the regular spring or a heavier spring so you'd probably want the regulars. Proper valving will keep the ride more plush as well.

I've had a few different 1st gen Tacomas, stock, mid, and LT. Stock is really good with coil overs, mid gets you a little more flex, and LT is just dope.

Im in Az and there are a ton of jeep trails and places to explore. The LT just flexes and I go over stuff with no locker. I also like to get to places on the other end of a dirt roads in a reasonable amount of time, and this thing sure does it. Did I mention it's great on the highway? Wider is better! The truck is so much more stable in twisted mountain roads at 75 than my stock 4runner of same vintage.
Don't just think buying generic parts will do the trick, you need to tune everything. You should probably tune what you have, a couple times. Compression valving and bump stops go along way. Dont forget alignment, gusset engine mounts and cam tab gussets are a must! The rabbit hole continues..

In your TW travels do you know anyone who has a build thread like this? Hadn't really looked into SUA until this year and I'm having a hard time searching for the details and balance setups between the mid travel upfront and the added range of SUA.

Looks similar to my current set up with relocated 12s with a TC sua midtravel rear. SUA will limit your lift from stock to around 2 inches of height vs a standard SOA set up is around 3-3.5 inches. Many consider the shackle flip with SOA applications and its ok, but you only get about another 3/4 of an inch if you stay SOA with shock relocation.

IMO if you plan to relocate your shocks you might as well commit to SUA or else your lift works against your travel instead of adding the height to your travel capability. As far as this set up is concerned though, it works really well with a mid travel front as your rear will have more travel to hold better speeds. In tradition with LT set ups, the front is typically 13 inches plus in travel and the rear is around 16 plus in travel.

If not cutting through the bed is a concern, here's a truck with the most popular real deal sua kit and shock hoops that don't go through the bed:

After 60k miles it wont be. Haha. I do tons of mountain driving where they were once roads and taken over by mother nature. That results in just small canyons and waterboards . The deeper into the woods I go on these the more I start teetering on the trail . Any extra articulation I can get, I'll take .

Yep that’s the route I would recommend for under the bed. He has a dmz long travel lead pack which is great should he ever want to go through the bed, just need a bed cage for it. If you have the coin I would go this route instead of the bolt on mid travel sua.

I'm a pipe / aerospace welder. It'll just be one big play weekend. Haha. Doing mid all around now and I'll save up until 60k miles to start hacking and welding. Looking in the Deaver* expo pack and 2.0 resi in the rear for now. Hope I have part numbers right. Got the 2.5 extended clickers up front. All fox. Possibly ordering today

Grabbed the CO today from 4wheelparts.com. they were running a 20% off select fox items. Got the clickers for the cost of standard resi. Held off on the rears. Need to figure out the leaf pack situation and where that'll put me.

I think people concerned about whether or not they want to cut the bed should not be looking at LT in the first place. Here are some thoughts.

    - Do you plan on keeping your truck till the wheels fall off or selling it?
    - Don't expect to get a load of money for your truck if you plan on selling it with all these mods.

    - Do you do your own maintenance? Your going to have more maintenance going the LT route (bushings, shock rebuilds) etc.
    - Do you have a fear of fiberglass? Don't waste your money on a +2 LT kit. I laugh at those people because they want to get away from having to install glass, but yet want 35's and would rather cut the shit out of there fenders.

Go with a +3.5 kit up front and a DMZ SUA in the rear. You can have a low profile bed cage like I have. I still use my truck as a truck and can haul 4x8 sheets of plywood/ drywall. I can still haul all of my camping gear and have a good time exploring remote Utah.

Haha yep. As soon as the house is signed for I'm going for it. 3 trips this year already planned to prep the miss' on why LT "might be cool".

In the meantime, hours of reading on here.

If he doesn't answer anytime soon, I'd say because the TC couldn't match the performance of his front kit.
