No, that’s the City’s responsibility. We take care of the grounds and facilities up too the beach. That’s how it is in this area anyway.

I was just wondering if maybe those were downsized from something like a 5 or 10 yd dumpster. We have a bunch of 7 yds and it's been suggested to go to 40 yd. I know we have a totally different visitor than you do, but I'm looking for any bad about going larger. Smaller wouldn't help us. But often times people are lazy so the lower it is and easier it is to get the trash in the container, better compliance and less mess. If we do go to 40's I want to dig down and set them subgrade, but truth be told, I would rather keep what we have because they have lids and the trash won't blow all over the desert.

Be the hero. Find that cheeto or gum wrapper stuck in the system causing the problem.

Other than cost, availability and the mess afterward, what would be other issues with using sand? Areas out here that do get ice but nothing like east do use sand...just wondering.

Rained for a couple of hours and was 10° when I got up :annoyed: Been snowing for awhile now.

Man talk about living dangerously, you just had to go and poke that bear.... :D

Sand does nothing to melt the ice, it is OK if the sun comes out in a few hours and melts a light glaze. But be waiting a long time here for that. It is cheap and I get a few 60 lb. tubes for ~$2 to keep as an emergency in the truck and in the garage as a backup.

Because I have a paver brick driveway sand is a good thing to fill in cracks but I wait until spring and use it occasionally with salt if there is only a light glaze of ice. And yes it comes into the house before I do and makes a mess. Vacuum is still pulling sand out of the carpet from last Spring. The garage floor drain is filled with so much sand that it has turned to cement.

Ice mixed with snow is thick enough that you normally can't melt it all with salt. You spread it to melt holes in it so that it looks like swiss cheese, wait a bit then chip it with an ice chipper. Or in my case a huge ass root cutter that looks like an ice chipper on steroids. Lift slam. Lift slam. Lift slam. Brain dead work. Chips the bricks too.

They don't use sand on the roads here much anymore. After 6-8 vehicles have gone by they have blown most of it off the road. And it has a strong negative environmental impact on the waterways and streams in the spring with run off especially on fish. But the road salt they buy from the cheapest bidder doesn't work down around zero or colder so they sometimes will mix sand in with it to make us feel we get our tax dollars worth. Usually though they just don't do anything until it warms up. And it can take a few days to get back up above zero.
