It terminates west in Talahina, OK and east and Pinnacle Mountain State Park in Arkansas so as far as I know it does not connect to any other trails. I'd suggest Tim Ernst books, very good resource

Now do you have a recommendation of 4x4 trails that leads up to Ouachita from Louisiana?

I’ll be bringing some coworkers that are not used to overlanding so trying to find a good off-road route with camping and hiking to break them into it. Since majority of their camping was done in RVs or cabins.
I also haven’t been to Arkansas, so I thought it’ll be a good opportunity to I’ll two birds in one stone.

 

Once you get north of Hwy 70 around Hot Springs there are literally 1000s of miles of easy to challenging USFS roads. Many of the developed campgrounds are still closed, but trail side sites are everywhere. Let us know when you're up and we might run into you somewhere...

 

In my opinion, you're much better to zoom zoom to the trail and spend quality time in that area, both for hiking and trail runs, much more scenic and rewarding. I personally havent done much in the Ouachita area, I prefer the Ozarks for ruggedness and isolation, but some of these folks have spent tons of time out in the Ouachitas and can turn you on to best runs.

 

Awesome! I told them that we are not going to be in developed campgrounds so they are somewhat prepared. Can you pinpoint me on an exact USFS road that’s easy with great scenery. Preferably near the water.

 

Does the high water mark trail run thru ozark?

 

It does, and it's not an exact run, but different sections. It has many fords tho, and water levels can make sections prohibitive, so know before you go.

 

Lately....everything is near water . If your near Jessievile (N of HS) or Mt. Ida (W of HS) stop by the Ranger offices and pick up the $15 maps and have at it.

Those sliders with the legs and mounting plates seperate are difficult to weld together if you don't have a big welding table. I'd buy them pe-assembled if I were welding them myself, but if you're going to pay someone to do it then it doesn't matter.

I'm glad this thread has really taken off recently. I'm N/NW AR looking for anybody to hit up some trails with. Preferably the Jasper/Pelsor area or anything around there.

 

If you're willing to pay, check this place out. I haven't been there myself, but it looks like they have all kinds of different levels of stuff.
