ya because it recirculates the air in the cabin instead of drawing warm air from outside. if you cool cooler air its colder, if you try to cool warm air its warmer :)

lol thats a legit question. I think my dad explained it to me once. During the summer I HAVE to use that button to get cold air. If I dont use it the truck is trying to cool 90+ degree air. if its turned on it just keeps cooling the same cool air in the truck over and over :D

On the flip side, on heating the cab, you may want to have that off so it pulls the air from the outside until your cab is closer to the desired temperature, then change it to recycle the air. Generally, even if it is freezing outside, the air coming off the engine is going to be quite a bit warmer than air when you first get in.

To some extent, you can also say the same thing for cooling your cab if its been sitting in the sun all day, although just opening windows would be quicker.

I am not trying to be mean or offensive, I am genuinely truly curious:

How on earth did you make it to 40 years of age having never encountered a recirculate button before?

Poor guy it's prob his first newer car in 20 years. back then airbags were a mystery now it's the re-circ button and 20 years from now it'll be the wing deployment button:D
