newbie questions on LSD and PreRunner

Hey guys, sorry of all the newbie questions but shopping for a used 2008-2014 Tacoma. These are the must haves: 2WD, access cab, long bed, V6, AT, towing package, LSD or locking rear end.

--Was LSD available on 2WD?

--How can you tell if it has an LSD?

--How can you tell if it has a factory towing package vs just an aftermarket hitch?

--Is there a website you can input the VIN and get an option sheet or build sheet to see original options?

Why not just get a 4X4? Only the prerunner will have the V6 and select few will have LSD. Look for the tranny cooler in front of the radiator to see if it has a tow package.

 

Thanks Jay - have no use for 4WD, so don't want to pay for the extra weight and maintenance

 

Look at the increased resale value and the expanded market you will have in a 4x4. When you add it all up they end up making you money in the long term. Just my .2

 

It will have an LSD oil sticker like this on it.

Thanks! The sticker makes it easy. Would that be there for a 2008 with the older LSD as well as the later models with electronic limited slip?

 

I think people may be confusing some terms. Off Road PreRunners had a true locking rear end. But all other PRs had the electronic LSD (as did all Tacos) starting in '08...or somewhere around that time
