This was the the rear-most bolt on what Toyota refers to as the "Engine Splash Shield". As @Blackout14 suggested there was a small retaining nut that was tacked inside the cross-member. The hit on the bolt head on the outside of the shield caused the nut to come loose and so it was just spinning inside of the cross-member and not coming off.

@loosnut offered to help me sort this out and was able to get to the nut - I think with an offset box end wrench. Since there was no way to weld the nut back in place, the question then was how to put it back together. Tried a nutsert, but that was just pulling out of the cross member when tightened. @loosnut then got the idea to just put a bolt through in the opposite direction to act as a stud - since the @Mobtown Offroad skid has those nicely recessed areas for the bolts it didn't matter that the bolt was going in the opposite direction.

Thanks and hats off to @Redmann, @Blackout14, and @loosnut for the advice and assistance - you guys rock!

    :censored:

Just got a $100 rebate I was waiting on, and it's spent. Water heater is messed up. I'm hoping it's one of the elements. Going to check them tomorrow. If one is bad, they are both getting replaced since i'll have to drain the tank anyway. Need to buy a damn multi-meter as well, can't find mine. Elements-$25 a piece, meter- $25, buckets to carry water - $10, beer- $15.

If it isn't the elements, I'm screwed. I don't have the skills to problem solve electrical issues.

Do you have no hot water at all or just not as hot , doesn't last as long.

$25 for a multi meter?! Get an analog one from harbor freight. $5. Put the savings back into a new Hot water heater.

Not as hot, thinking one element went.

That was just an estimate, I have no idea how much they are, but i'll get a digital.

    FYI, tomorrow is Sunday!!

I'll grab a meter in the morning and test the elements, and take it from there. I don't think I need help at this point. It's older, but everything looks good on the outside and in the panels. No corrosion, no leaks, etc. I'm sure it's just one of the elements.

    Sounds like one element went.

Make sure you take one with you or that you know what size to get. They come in different lengths.

You may need one of these. image.jpg

Can you just drain it with a garden hose?

I can drain it with a hose, into buckets..... The drain in the floor is slower than a turtle in molasses in January. I'm hoping it's the top element and I don't have to drain it the whole way. Like Joe said, I may just drain and flush it anyway to get any sediment out.

Why haul hot water out? Shut the breaker off and the water supply to the water heater. Take a shower. No reason to waste hot water.

Thanks guys. I smell what you're cooking. I'll correct myself:

    1) Shut the breaker to the hot water tank.

    2) Leave water line alone

    3) Take hot shower

There's cool water left in the take. Hot water used in the shower. No reason to haul hot water out of the basement.

probably not electrical problems, at least not with the wiring, breaker would be very easy fix. I'm off tomorow and will be driving from scranton back to philly if you need a hand. Meter $25? here's the one I use... https://www.amazon.com/Fluke-87V-Family/dp/B00T3LZLFG

I should be around a little later in the afternoon if help is needed. I'll be driving from Scranton back to Philly

    That's slow. :turtleride:

    I don't remember why I quoted this.
