also run pcmflash and see if it shows your dongle serial number. if so, you can skip guardant process

 

ECU - Electronic Control Unit. The thing (computer) that seems from what I've read to control the engine, throttle control (gas pedal is no longer linked to a throttle... but instead just wires to the ECU), but not the transmission. It's sorta the brains controlling the brawn. It's going to control when valves open and close during the combustion within cylinders that determine things like air fuel mixture, when things combust, idk whatever. Reprogramming it offers a world of opportunity to change the engine power delivery.
TCU - Transmission Control Unit. Another computer that is responsible for the transmission. This thing changes between gears... something about torque converters, maybe (that might be the ECU, idk) and so on and so forth.

Flash - Replace the program that currently resides in either the ECU or the TCU with a different program that controls the engine or transmission completely differently.

Flash Manager - Software made by OVTune to replace the Toyota ECU or TCU software for a variety of different versions of the third gen truck (04B02, 04B03 are common ECU versions of the AT-Automatic Transmission truck, with 04B02 usually being 2016 trucks, though some odd duck had it on a 2017 one).

Should be as clear as mud now.

Hey guys, I’m definitely interested in this thread especially because of the weird gritting in my truck and the extreme lack of power but don’t really want to read through all 600 pages. Can someone give me an update?

Does this work now? Do we still need to email the OP back and forth and such?

 

Ah snap! PCMFlash says usb dongle not available. Hopefully that's only because it's not registered. But that also means I'm on hold until tomorrow. I did email in the first of the files from the old school method.

PCM Flash shows the serial number of my dongle, but dont you have us using Flash Manager? I sent you the guardant code, can i skip that then? @OVTune

Ahh.. Apologies since all the questions has been about the AT tune. You'll have to ask Matt. Not sure what's going on with the MT files. I have the 04B12. Maybe one of the guys have the 04B11 they can send you.

 

use flash manager to download tune files (and instructions / links for new users)
use pcmflash to flash truck

skip guardant, send me dongle serial.

Aw dang you're more succinct and get to the heart of the matter much better than me...

 

Flash Manager is only used to download the appropriate tune files. If PCM Flash is recognizing your dongle, you should be good to go (dongle is registered, hence why it is recognized). You will use PCM Flash to flash the tune to the truck as described in the instructions. Give it a shot. If it work it works, If not, you wont be able to read or write any files.

I wonder if OV can program the abs solenoids on the front axle to work like line locks.

 

I never got the Licensing key back from mat, but i can see the serial number. ill take it!
