Considering trading in my truck (and my wife's car) on a new 4runner. Need to downsize vehicles and I think this will be the best option.

For those that have traded in recently, what numbers have you been offered?

mines got 21,xxx miles, OME 2 inch lift, C4 lo pro bumper and a few other accessories.

Best will be to return to stock, sell the parts separate. Then sell the truck yourself. I’d assume they’ll offer you $22k towards a new 4Runner.

They actually take money off for replacing stock with aftermarket. Put stock stuff back on first sell aftermarket seperate. 4runners are sexy tho, i actually want that parked next to the Tacoma

Sell private. Dealer wanted to offer me $16K for trade-in on a 4Runner, with zero discounts on the new car (they wanted $43K for a brand new ORP).

2012 TRD-OR with 4x4 and 6MT, 69,000 miles. Sold it privately for $24K and bought a gently used CPO Trail Premium, 15,000 miles, with brand new 275/70 KO2's for $36K.

Sell it private party as is. Might take longer but worth it. Sold mine for 31k instead of 26k trade in.

Just curious if the 4 Runner has the same known "issues" as the Tacoma? Or any issues with the 5th Gen...

I've read complaints about the transmission being rough, en tune issues, can't properly align it, interior rattles, bad mpg and some vibes on the freeway.

That being said, seems like quality control is much better over in Japan and they have very little major mechanical issues.

If I didn't need a bed to occasionally haul stuff and for camping I might have picked one up. The interior is pretty outdated though. Feels more like a 2009 than a 2017 model.

My goal is to sell my wife’s highlander and get a 4runner. It will compliment the Taco in the garage.

OP can you just keep you taco and get a 4runner too?

We actually have both... (16 T4R SR5, 18 DCSB OR)
    image.jpg
And I can definitely say that the interior is a little dated compared to my loaded OR but the trans is much better than on our 3.5L tacos. The 4Runner just seems so much more responsive and doesn't have the issue with shifting super early in gears 1-3.

I don't believe the 4-Runner's have any significant issues as do the Gen 3 Tacoma's. The engine is the same 4 liter they been using and it's great. My wife has had two 4-Runner's and not one issue...

Sold that one 4 days after picking up the Taco. I was tired of watching its value tank by the day, but it was fun (328 M sport, stage 2 tune).

We have both as well I have Taco she has a ‘17 SR5 Premium
    The good:
Rides much better than my Taco, leather seats are very comfortable, it has the power I keep wanting on my truck, the second row reclining seats are also very comfortable for adult passengers/kids/baby seats and still have plenty of cargo room in the back, quality interior materials.
The bad: it’s definitely lacking up to date electronics, instrument cluster is the only thing for me that it’s def outdated, infotainment is subpar.

It’s def a solid SUV no issues thus far and we love it

The 3rd gen Taco has its quirks as we all know but it too has been a solid truck just lacks power.

    My 2cents

I wish I could but I need to reduce insurance and ownership tax costs. Basically going from 2 vehicle to 1.

Mines been relatively trouble free and it pains me that I have to consider giving it up.

I did this before posting and NADA.com gave me a trade in of about 31-32k. Thats why i was wondering what the real world numbers were.

The lift and bumper offer zero dollar valu to your trade-in. Are you able to reinstall your OEM and sell your C4 on here?

I have both also... The Limited 4Runner cluster is up to Par with Tacoma just not the base trail edition or lower.

The only issue I have had in the 4Runner is alignment after installing KO2 on all 4 corners about three months ago. They supposedly swapped out two tires to get it straightened out. BUT it needs another alignment now.

So far zero has ssues with the Tacoma.

I was given 26k on my 2012 Baja towards by 16 trade!

When I was looking into a Pro-4X a week ago the best the dealer could do (going $500 under invoice on the Frontier) would still leave me out the $4k down-payment I just made in January plus my payment would be going up by 25%.

Obviously I had to walk away. It was a fully topped out crew cab with leather and everything so it is $1500 more expensive than my truck MSRP-wise anyway but it just didn't feel right.

I got $22k on trade in on my 13 with 95k miles towards a new 4Runner TRD ORP. I left everything on it too.
I know this is a 3rd gen forum but I wanted to give some perspective for the guys saying he’s only gonna get 22k or less. He’ll get more.
