Trans issues aside, I felt the Taco was faster and less “lathargic” feeling than the 4Runner. But I only drove them on short test drives.

There will be a ton of people willing to swap entire bumpers with you. I would, if you were local and colors matched.

Compare NADA, KBB, and Truecar. They carry more weight than saying the guys on TW told me this is what it's worth.

I had a 2010 (first year of the Gen 5) 4Runner and it was easily the best vehicle I've ever owned. I traded it in with 98,600 miles on it and they gave me $20,000 for it. I'll ruffle feathers here but it was a far, far superior vehicle to my 2016 Tacoma. It had the 4.0 liter/5 speed that the Gen 2 Tacomas had, though the engine is tweaked differently so it has more horsepower. Maybe it was the Japanese construction, but the 4Runner was damn near the perfect vehicle. I had no issues with it the entire time I owned it. Do I miss my 4Runner? Yes, yes I do.

Why is NADA trade in values a few thousand more than KBB or Edmund?

In our experience KBB and Edmunds are pretty conservative. We usually price per NADA and sell for close to that amount. I have not used Truecar.Com much but I like the concept

Sell your truck. I'm sick of Toyota telling me that a truck is not worth that much.

My first 1st gen they said 3500 for it. Took 3 weeks and I got 12,5 for it.

Second 1st gen they said 5500 for a low mile dcsb. Less than 2 weeks I got 16000.

Both times the dealer was way under Kelly blue book dealer trade in numbers.

Haha! I feel your pain. I just watched my 2017 M3 drive off yesterday, $15k down in 14 months. We’re going to convert all vehicles to Toyota’s in short order.

I got $24,500 for my '16 OR Access Cab with lift on it. Didn't have time to remove it. Bought it used for 27k so I felt it was a fair deal. Found a nice '16 4Runner Trail for 32k. Pretty happy with how it worked out. Good luck on everything.

When I traded in my 09 based on kbb and edmunds values I thought I did very good since it was dark and wet out my dealer I think rated my truck condition very good, even though it needing tires, worn interior and many dents and scatches the argument could have been made my truck was in average condition. However, I looked and NADA rating was still higher than what I got. so what is the correct was to appraise your trade?

I got $28500 for my 16 sr5 with 16k miles in November. I'd expect similar for a trd model as long as it's 4x4.

You'll always be able to get more private sale. For these trucks ~$2-5K+ more than a trade. I think I left about $1k on the bone when I traded mine, but I was done with it. I traded it for $28K; KBB had it at $31k-$33k private sale. Carmax offered $26k, another dealership offered trade-in $27.5 and one had it at $29.5K. I went with the 28K trade because it was a better deal overall for the new ride (that 1.5K I didn't get on trade it I made up for in discount on the new ride).

They were being listed for sale anywhere from $33-36k online (which is crazy because I paid ~$33K new).

OP, what I do is start by researching how much my truck is being offered by local dealers. Then subtract A few $k from that.

I wanted to trade my 2010 Tundra in for a 2017 Tacoma. They only offered $17k. In my area they were being sold for about $24k. So instead of trading in, I sold it through the USAA car selling app and got $20k for it.

In the end it’s up to you. IMO I wanted that extra 3k going towards my next Tacoma. It’s all what works best for your financial situation.
