Put you kids in jujitsu, this teaches them how to get their frustrations out in a positive way. It also teaches them respect for themselves and others. A biproduct is that they will be able to defend themselves if and when someone starts stuff with them.

 

Every single person that escaped from jail was because they watched Shawshank Redemption. Every drug dealer was highly influenced by Scarface. Every furry watched Barney growing up (ok that one is probably true.)

Again not every kid not every parent not every bad movie or game but you can say that to parents whos kids just got shot up!

Ever stop and wonder why the military sings cadence about killing and an honorable death? Why they shoot at human shapes at the range? Why they bring in Hollywood and the video game industry to increase the realism and effectiveness?

It is called conditioning.

And conditioning is exactly what we are doing to children through the continuous exposure to violence through tv, movies, music, social media, and yes, video games.

Like it or not, desensitization to violence allows the individual to more readily engage in violence.

I am not defending excessive use of force, nor am I defending the officers involved with that event. But to say it was purely a race driven attack is clouding the events that transpired prior to the video shown on TV. The force used is justified when it is applied in a legal fashion in order to subdue a threat. He kept getting up, and at one time thought to have lunged at an officer, then he kept fighting. The officers were continuing to apply force in order to subdue, some were just not using a legal means of said force.

It's unfortunate that the media and society turned it into a race thing, causing a hung jury, and the officers acquitted. Had the race card been excluded, I would be shocked if those officers walked.

Just for the record, I have it on good authority that every one of those kids playing that game have banged our moms.

My 8 year old does Karate but wants to move to BJJ, is in scouts, has heaps of chores - that he doesn’t get paid for - and has to read two books a week and answer questions about them as well as deal with his school assigned work. Kids that involved in positive activities that are benificial to them don’t shoot up places.

 

I wonder how many folks will "get this"?

They're delicate because they're taught that their opinions are always correct. Many kids, and adults as well, could use a healthy dose of humility and empathy these days.

More than 1 thing goes to today's kids shooting up schools, etc. Media, violent games, peer pressure aka bullying, bad or no parenting. And Media! I'll make you famous! Just IMO.
