I've seen several reports of a 1-2 sec delay taking off at full throttle, I'm just curious, is that with traction control completely off? Could it be traction control trying to prevent the tires from breaking traction?

If they want to run this small motor, Toyota needs to pair it up with an 8 or 10 speed auto. Seems that’s the way the market is going, if they go that way, let’s hope they don’t screw it up.

twin turbo kit should help muffle alot of the sound. May still be loud with the urd exhaust but will definitely be quieter than naturally aspirated.

For the people who are saying there is a clunk when the truck is cold

Does this clunk come at low speed from the back of the truck? My truck has done this since brand new.

during all testing and logging, I have never had this delay or bog when going full throttle from a stop, I tested in 2w and 4w

Mine clunked stock when cold and depending on how I feather the throttle when in slowing moving traffic. Not enough to bother me though.

Went out this morning to put more miles on.

Winds are 22mph gusting to 31mph. Drove all over with a variety of headwind, crosswind and tailwinds. On the highway at 65-70 with both cruise on and off it had to bump down to 5th a few times to maintain speed with the winds, primarily on inclines. Nothing too abrupt though.

I did a few passes up and down a long sustained incline and the truck downshifted to 4th and held it. The incline tapered at the midpoint, and the transmission didn't rush to get back to 5th, rather it held 4th. When I crested the hill the truck immediately went into 6th and stayed put.

Around town the truck performs as it should, upshifts and downshifts are smooth

I think I echo the sentiment of others in this thread, the tune does what it can, and it does a great job at that. The overdrive gears in this truck are so tall that there is no way to perfectly change the behavior on the highway. Having said that, my opinion is that there is a night and day difference on the highway, and around town. Cruise control was basically useless to me before the tune... now it's actually usable.

I think with the tune I am content with the way the truck performs. I understand the gearing in the tranny, and I knew that when I bought it so I won't complain about that. I've never driven the 1GR 4.0 so I don't have any basis for comparison with that, but I do feel that the truck just works now.

Low speed, coasting to a stop. Mine did it since new too. It's usually around 1200-1500 RPM and I would say 10-15 mph... it's very predictable.

Not sure if it's coming from the back, but possibly. It results in a brief but abrupt deceleration, which is why I thought it was something to do with downshifting/TC unlocking.

I’ve seen different types of clunks from mine and other 3rd gen trucks. Mine used to do a clunk from the rear but it was caused by my u-bolts being less than 20lb torque... tightened up to 60 and that hasn’t returned. Still have occasionally gotten what feels like a delayed downshift clunk when coming to a stop slowly, generally in the first 5 mins or so - and it rarely ever does it more than once.

Haven’t yet experienced it on 1.03 though so will have to report back when I have more cycles in

Mat, you mentioned a higher performing less economical toon a couple days ago that you are working on. Do you have any more info on that?

I get the delayed downshift type you're explaining when cold. Yesterday it was very subtle compared to how it typically is, today I only had 1 stop when cold and I didn't notice it.... It wasn't a complete stop though.

The clunks on my truck were the worst with 1.02C.

I’ve only had 1 clunk on 1.03. Drastically reduced.

He has 2 turbos. Once 1.03 is out and perfected, twin turbo is next.

@OVTune, I didn't read the let it idle for 10 minutes part. I ran about 40 or so miles last night, what's the harm in not letting it idle to get use to idling? Will it figure it out on it's own or is this something I still need to do. And if so, do I need to re-flash to do it.

@OVTune can we still run the Shift Sense Pro after flashing the TCU? I’m a huge fan of having the three shift options with the SSP in S-mode, but hate the stock D mapping.

Do you have the tune? The D mapping is radically changed in 1.03... you certainly could use the SSP in S-mode but D is not the crappy stock mapping anymore.
