A few months ago...prior to the re-gear....I had opened a case with corporate on the howl. I also had the dealer check it out. We’ve purchased several cars from this dealership....so they know us.

I have an access cab, and it is not covered under the current tsb. This evening I got a call from the service department. They informed me that there was a tsb out but not for my truck. Told me that they had spoken to a regional rep who informed them that an access cab tsb for my truck (I’m assuming the 8.75 rear diff) is in the works.

Not that I need it now. Just thought I’d pass it along.

That is good to hear! Hopefully they will move onto the rest of the 2016-2017s after that one. Then on to all 2018’s.

I’m supposed to follow up with my service manager tomorrow. Hopefully he confirms your AC model is next in line!

More good news. I’ve said all along it doesn’t do Toyota any good to just cherry pick which trucks to work on. I hoped early on they would develop a fix and I think they have. I think finding the fix took longer than they thought it would, and certainly long enough to make me a bit antsy over it. But, they did and I’m confident they will apply the fix to every truck that does it. They had to start somewhere and likely started with the most units affected. No manufacturer wants to keep a loyal customer base p’d off for too long.

I would love to see someone compare the 2 different sets of leaf springs. It'd be interesting to see what the change they came up with is...

Anyone on here with a stock OR willing to go out and measure their rear fender height from the ground? I had the TSB done last night and other than one little blip I haven't heard the howl. I'm curious on if there is any difference on ride height from the stock springs to the TSB ones

Well ok, the FTS sent my dealer the same TSB as I left them so they have now ordered parts...

Parts won't be here until next week so I'm stuck in the loaner until at least next Wednesday.

I'm bummed I won't be in my truck but happy that this is moving along!

I'll just have to drive my '85 pickup more. :burnrubber:

There will be a difference right now for sure. Springs take a bit of time to settle. Give it a week or so then measure.

Got mine taken care of today. Mine wasn't too loud but could hear it at volume 20 if I listen carefully and feather the throttle.

Due to traffic, only hit the sweet spot for 1 instance. With volume off, could barely hear it while trying to make the noise so I'm happy. Will have to get more miles to confirm.

Here's a pic of the new mount, don't know what the original one looked like thou.

Very valid point, I'll still need someone to get a stock measurement becasue I was dumb and forgot to get one before leaving my truck for the fix

Have an appointment tomorrow morning to get mine re-looked at again. They won't order parts for the TSB until they "inspect" it... even though they've already looked at it twice. We'll see how this one plays out...

I'll measure before and after the spring swap. I'd expect it to be ever so slightly taller until the springs fully settle.

    Ugh... so frustrating...

So, I took it in and they heard the noise. Went to pick it up I looked at the service order and it said "replacement leaf springs on order".

OK, what about the damper pads??

"Only the long beds get the damper pads"

    :frusty:

The way the parts list is organized, it does sort of appear that only the long beds get the damper pads but if they actually read the procedure, it clearly shows that ALL trucks get the damper pads and only the short beds get leaf springs.

So now, I get the pleasure of fighting with their service manager tomorrow morning to get them to also replace the pads.

And they wonder why I rolled my eyes when they tried SO damn hard to sell me the extended warranty... Getting them to actually fix anything properly is worse than pulling teeth.

They gave me an 8yr 125K warranty for all of my issues. I still traded my truck after realizing that warranty is just golden handcuffs. I realized I was going to have to fight with them for every.single.thing. I needed repaired under warranty and at some point my time and energy need to be spent elsewhere.

Guess where I'm not going today? The dealership.

When I was changing out the springs i couldnt find any differences btween the new and old ones, im not sure what it is that they changed.
There isnt a noise dampener on the body mount from factory the plate is replaced and the noise dampener is added when performing the tsb.

I don't have any howling noise but I get a clang sometimes when taking off (sounds like bad u joint). I reported it repeatedly to dealer and always get the same response, "they all do it". 2016 SR built in November 2015 in TX.

I’ve read most pages here and am still confused. I have a 2017 Double Cab 4x4 SR5. I have significant howling at about 50 MPH. Does the TSB cover th 2017 SR5? Also, on a side note, installed Clazzio seat covers. Will I have to remove the rear covers before Toyota will repair?
    Thanks!
