sooo ive been mulling it over for months now, but today i just dropped my deposit on an ARE cap cap for my DCSB. Im kinda torn about if i ordered the right specs. I could still go back in a couple days and change the order if i want....

I dont really like the look of the "overland series" or the window trim of the "V" so here's what i got
As of now i ordered an ARE "CX" series cap with:
    front slider windows (included)
    side slider windows (included)
    dual t-handle locks (included)
    head liner (free w/ rebate)
Yakima roof rack track only (+200)

    should i modify my order?
Im considering getting 1 or two windoors on the sides of the cap, they are an extra 150$ per side. Im planning on doing some camping back there so maybe better ventilation to have at least on one side.

Or, get the "Z" series - with slider side windows instead of the vented windows it comes with (windoors not an option for Z series). The Z series would end up being about 300$ more than what ive originally ordered. Basically i kinda like the looks of the shape of the rear and rear window better.....

    So...thoughts?

For me, Windoors are a requirement on a long bed - maybe not so much on a short bed. They make it easy to grab stuff from the front of the bed without having to crawl in.

I got the fold down front window, because when the ice builds up between the cab and cap after a lot of snow it rattles and drives me nuts. A fold down allows you to knock the ice out (and makes window cleaning easier).

I also got one LED light strip on a prop switch that opens with the rear door. I REALLY like that.

I took the rebate instead of the carpeted interior. Seeing pics of other people's moldy headliners in here made me happy I made that decision. If you're sleeping in the back with your significant other and she has long hair, her hair will catch on the bare fiberglass if its not lined.

Look it over real good when it comes in and before it gets installed. Mine had really bad scratches and gouges and had fisheyes all over the paint. I sent it back to have it repainted. I wasn't real happy about that, but I looks perfects now.

I'm looking to buy a commercial ARE cap for my taco. I'd invest in a windoor (driver's or passengers, your choice) to make it easier to get to stuff at the front of the bed. Other than that, sounds good!

-yeah i understand that the windoors on a short bed arent very functional for reaching in, im mostly concerned with the ventilation so i might just get one side with windoors.
    - I didnt even really think much about the front window being a problem hmmmmmm
-planning on installing my own LED light strips when i do dual battery set up with seperate fuse box
    - yes i am planning on getting the headliner with the rebate, what do you mean you took the rebate instead of the carpeted interior?
-thanks, will look over it real good

I was offered a free carpeted interior OR $50 off the purchase price. I took the $50. Maybe that's changed since November.

I bought mine used for a great price. I’m happy it came with the fold down front window so I can slide really long lumber into the cab. Has sliding windows with screens which provides plenty of ventilation. Wish it had the windoors cause I have the longbed. I tried sleeping in it but I’m over six foot tall and was never comfortable inside.

Get the front fold down window. Dealer(s) I spoke with all said this was included on over 90% if their orders, snow, ice, road grime, spider webs, you name it get in there. I’ve had two caps (both leer) both had fold down front windows. Don’t use it often, but I’d rather have it.

Both of mine did yes..... just unlatched and the entire window lowers/ removes. The entire rest of the window slide ext were normal. Of course verify with dealer. I think the option was only maybe $75

ARE MX for me- with a platform bed, having the extra headroom inside is great!

Mine has the slider that you can open when the tilt is closed. It was only a few buck more that just the slider - don't remember the exact amount but it wasn't much.

I was looking at the MX for my long bed...I don't really like the looks, but that extra 5" would be nice when sleeping in the back.

I used to have a shorter shell on my 1st Gen (my avatar pic), and it looked sweet, but I couldnt stand it when using the platform in that truck with my wife and kid. The MX, or other high models, are great for camping with and for loading higher gear inside them- such as being able to load bicycles in a standing position rather than stacked sideways.

What, you have a problem with big white stinkbugs? At least I sorta leveled it, otherwise the look would be perfect. :)

Ah, yes- definitely a garage parking issue. We just back her up to the open door, drop the tailgate and it adds a second couch to the ol’ man cave!:bananadance:

I didn't like the windoor because every time you lean over the side of your truck your gonna scratch the crap out of the side of your cap and box that you just spends thousands and thousands of dollars on. And you got a short box so why loose sleep over it. Zippers and belt buckles will kill the paint and then your kids will climb up the tire and through the window like it's a game. My leer has great air flow through it and it came with screens.
