Because you are in National Parks you’re very restricted on what you can do ...not sure what you are trying to do ? Truck camp ?

Inside the National Parks themselves, vehicles are not allowed off pavement. However, on the road (ca198 and ca180) between the parks, and of course down the hill a bit before entering the parks, you are outside the National Park boundaries for awhile. Between the parks it is part of Sequoia National Forest, where you can do some off-pavement driving.

I don't know of any specifics as I've not explored off-road so both of these are just areas that in my head I'd like to go explore one of these days: Around the Hume Lake area, there are a number of fireroads and other doubletracks that wander all around the forest. The other is outside of Three Rivers, toward Mineral King. There's Mineral King Road which is paved, but quite a few fireroads that split off of it and nearby. Neither of these are not going to be directly within the Sequoia groves as nearly all of those are within park boundaries, though you should get into the typical sierras conifer forest in either area. Sorry I don't have any more direct info.

Several developed campgrounds up there, including Lodgepole (nearest to Giant Forest), Dorst, Azalea and Sunset (near Grant Grove), and a few others I forget. Most of these aren't open in the off-season and get really busy during the in-season, thus might not be the best option.

I'd be interested in hearing about what you find for more wild camping options. Also post some pictures here when you get back! :)

Only in designated campgrounds ⛺️ No off-roading in National Parks
But if the road down to Cedar Grove,Kings Canyon National Park is open ..usually closed in winter There are some sweet car camping areas just outside of the park on the Kings River

Just finished watching a few videos by Overland Bound at Sequioa NP. Doesn't exactly map out the trails but gives you a good idea of what's out there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFY0oQyV3zY

A little lunch on the road while exploring and camping in south/Central Colorado.

First time truck camping with the Tundra, started by just throwing the sleeping bag on top of the decked, kept waking up, so I was able to get some rest in the back seat... Good thing since it was snowing in the morning.

And a visit and hiking up the tallest sand dune on the continent.

Family had a great time camping in Hawaii.

We got some rain for 2 of the 3 nights, but it left for clear skies and a beautiful final day at the beach (but no pictures of that since the battery was nearly dead).

The kids sure loved to play in the bed of the truck about as much as they loved playing with the fire. lol

Nice! We were so close to going to the same spot. How was it? Busy? Any pilots launching?

Yea I actually didn't realize it was a 3-day weekend, probably not the greatest time to be up there. A little too crowded for my taste but the neighbors were cool for the most part (some asshat college kids pulled in at like 1AM in the morning hammering in tent stakes and acting like they were at a frat party).

Didn't see anybody launching while I was there.

I'm using that lamp too! Not only does it putout good light (even at the lowest setting that lasts quite a while), you can crank it to get some more juice. Best of all, it had a USB port so you can charge your phone in an emergency!
