Dealer "No Lifts on 2018"

2018 here.... Kings/camburg up front, no issues with any systems so far... And I don't expect any of that to change. Toyota says you can put 1000lbs in the bed, I think that has more affect on the front radar projection than tire change/standard lift kits

Hey guys, about to pull the trigger on a 2018 OR. Has the no lifts on 2018s been changed? Does it brake stuff or is everything good to go? I thought I read on another forum that someone called Toyota and they said they don’t recommend it, but it will still work?

 

There are a few dealers in Washington State who will lift the 18's and don't seem to have much heartburn about it.

One of them will only do it if you sign a release form indicating the TSS system "may" not work as intended but they say it should be just fine. Covering their back side but will still do it.

So from a mechanical standpoint nothing is different, just that the height messes with the sensors on the ‘18s?

And, if the tss can be disabled anyways, why would Toyota advise against lifting and instead just say “you can lift it, but the tss system will be messed up so we advise disabling that extra feature if you lift it”?

Oh, and are there tons of ‘18s on TW already lifted and doing well?

I wouldn't worry about it.
You still have to drive the truck and not rely on sensors to drive for you...
These new safety systems are only to help, not to drive...
Your liability will be same if you hit someone either way... So don't hit someone....
You are moving the camera angles so some features may not work as good...

 

That’s what I was thinking. Would you get denied a insurance claim because you disabled the tss on a stock truck? So what’s the difference if you disabled it on a lifted truck? Am I missing something?

I just purchased an '18 Sport and the dealer here in Idaho had an '18 Sport lifted with a 3" lift for sale. Dealer installed lift kit package.

 

Question for everyone. I was talking with a member here on this subject and he has a 2018 OR, lifted and modded with no TSS issues.

What I don't understand, is why are people so hesitant to get a 2018 that plan on modding it? One user literally said the TSS is the one thing holding them back from getting a 2018. I just don't understand the logic here. All trucks before 2018 didn't have TSS. You can disable TSS on the 2018 and make it just like older models. Or enable it and have it recalibrated after a lift or mod if you must.

As someone getting a 2018 with plans to mod (maybe, not sure yet) I just don't get the logic here. What am I missing?

 

Just wanted to leave a quick comment. The Toyota dealerships in both Westminster, MD and Hanover, PA are still moving forward with lifting 2018+ Tacomas, Tundras, Sequoias, and 4Runners. There are using a ReadyLift setup. ReadyLift has submitted the following letter to all Toyota dealerships stating that a 3" to 6" lift, using their products, will NOT impact the use of the new safety features.

Now my two cents. I hate block lifts as over time they degrade/damage the rear axle. Although I'm not going off road with my truck, I still don't like the idea that a decade+ off street driving on PA potholes, could EF up my rear axle.

 

I don't understand the issue. I have an 18 and plenty of people are installing pro grills with the tss sensor. The pro tss is located at the bottom where my off road is in the middle. They are having no issues with the relocation. I'd say if you lift it 3 inches, buy a pro grill and the sensor will be located the same distance from the ground as factory.

 

I agree. I got the pro grill for my 18 and took measurements before and after install and from the center of the sensor it dropped almost 4 inches with the grill swap. I have had zero issues with radar cruise or pre-collision system. The pre-collision system has alerted me to brake once or twice since the swap in a situation that someone pulled out in front of me a little close.

 

Anyone do a 1 inch spacer and aal? TSS issues?

 

I lifted mine. TSS works fine. OME springs, 5100s, and Icon aal.
