Andrew, I just re-read your post. Was it only rubbing on your mudflap after you installed sliders, and after removing the mudflaps you solved that problem? Sorry I can't recall and am not able to jump to your build thread right now- are you on a stock suspension or is what you are describing on a lift?

Did you keep the 255 or did you go to 285 with your lift?

    This thread is really enthralling.

    So my statement/question:

This seems like a valid option for not having to put a lift on a brand new truck, I bought the TRD offroad package, much for the same reason why I bought the Rubicon edition of my Jeep, I wanted the lockers, diffs, gearing and such that the offroad package gives you from the factory. However, you do end up replacing most of the suspension obviously if you want to run bigger tires. I have noticed whilst researching the best way to run '33s' on my taco that the suspension lifts are quite a bit more expensive then they are for Jeeps. That being said I think this 'skinny' option seems like a great way utilize what I think is a great stock suspension for the TRD.

So now for my question for the group; what space/puck lifts would compliment running the skinny setup on a stock TRD Offroad suspension? Sorry if I missed that somewhere in the thread it's up to 56 pages currently.

Personally, I think the factory off road suspension would be best until you replace the factory components. You can get a decent lift for less than 1100. Use the factory until then.

Thanks. I am looking into which tires/suspension to go with for overlanding. The more research I do the further down the hole I go. Initially I was just considering what most guys run, 285/70/17. Then I started considering the cost and ease of having tires maintained and looking to purchase from a national distributor, I am moving in a few months. So that can/has put a limit on which tires I can purchase. After reading about performance on and off road along with fuel efficiency I am leaning towards the 255/85/16. Adding to the mix is if I swap out for an aftermarket wheel and now learning about offset/backspacing and lug and hub centric... This hole just keeps going and going

Well, I want to stay with the factory suspension, or as close to it as I can. Or just pull the trigger and spend 3 -5k for a good suspension.

That's one thing I learned while building my Jeep, just make a decision and stick to it. The Jeep had 4 different amalgamations of lifts by the time it was 'done'.

Yea, but even without rubbing the 33's look pretty stuffed on the truck. Wouldn't just throwing some 1" spacers go a long way it helping ?

I'm doing an overland build. I totaled my 2016 trd off-road on Jan 30th (hit a tree). My 2018 Tacoma is getting (5) 255 85 16 cooper st maxx on the way from discount tire. I also have an full OME kit (90021 shocks and 887 springs) and heavy dakars enroute from Headstrong offroad. Both of those items should be at my house in the next 2 days.

Some advice I was given by @Coot83 was to drive the truck for a while, learn what it can and can't do before spending money. The more I thought about this the more impact it has had. I have read on here about those who just purchased a particular part without considering their entire build and ended up having to swap out or "live with it". Putting a good set of tires now seems like the very first option in the build. Avoiding purchasing a cheap or expensive suspension decision until I know what my additional weight will help me decide what suspension will suit my needs.

Ive found on my last truck (2016 trd offroad) that the tire I had (Maxxis 255 85 16) didn't rub at all. it was really stuffed, but didn't rub at full lock. that was on the street. So, maybe offroad itll rub a bit, but idk.

Would you share what price you got from Discount Tire for the Coopers?

I like tall and skinny, and I have no money for regear. If I was going to do 35s, Id do 37s.
