CEL Light On Code indicates running lean

I had code pulled and it indicated that engine is running lean. I just cleaned intake sensor and throttle body intake. Any suggestions on anything else I might try?

Exactly which code was being thrown?

 

A friend that works at a repair shop pulled it for me and told me that it was running lean. He did not give me the specific code #. I'll take it to Autozone and have them scan it and will get back with info as soon as I can.

Well, work slowed down enough that I got by Autozone and had them pull the codes. It is throwing a P0171. I have not had time to research this out yet. Any ideas before I start throwing moola at it??

P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1)

If you have your stock intake I would try that, also the maf sensor may be dirty if that is the intake sensor you are talking about.

 

I cleaned the sensor located in the rubber boot between the air filter (K&N cleanable) and the throttle body. I also cleaned the inlet of the throttle body. I used throttle body cleaner and made sure all was dry before putting it back together.

Cody, try that first... ur on the right track. this code could be tons of things. basically any un-metered air getting into the motor after the maf will cause it. do u oil ur a/f? cuz that oil is notorious for covering the sensor and displaying false readings. but since u cleaned it, erase the code(autozone or pull ur negative cable off for a few minutes) and drive around see if it comes back.

 

Well, pulled the MAF sensor out, cleaned the hell out of it with throttle body cleaner and q-tips... Got a couple of q-tips worth of crap off of it. Plugged it back in, pulled negative cable off of battery....re-installed neg cable and drove it for 35 miles or so. I noticed much better throttle response, better idling, and looks like possible better fuel mileage(gauge drops quickly at 1/4 tank). Looks like I might be good to go!!!!

right on man! hope that works! and next time just some advise dont use q tips u could accidentially bend on of those small wires. then ur out a whole sensor.... but thats next time ha

 

Clean your MAF man!

And to Cody, I would get rid of that K&N, and get a AFE Pro Dry S filter. Bc that is what is causing so much gunk to get in your MAF/TB. I had the same filter, and had a bunch of crap on mine after only 4-5 months. The K&N filter has been known to do this, Bc of the oil and they dont filter that great.

 

I have a quick question. I cleanded my MAF about a month ago and reset the codes. It went for a while and then the light came back on - went off - and is now back on. I went by O'riley's and it gave me the P0171 and they thought it was the O2 sensor. When I cleaned my MAF I used MAF cleaner from O'Riley's. Is there a gasket or something I'm supposed to replace on the sensor when I install it to be sure it's a tight fit?

Any help would be appreciated.
