Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

while searching this thread I found 1 guy with a pic posted of his PCMflash window. It shows version 1.1.93?

 

Yeah I mean honestly for me, I don't get what everyone is saying about the pedal being too sensitive. I love it, and if anything wish it was even more sensitive. I think it's absolutely just reprogramming our brains from the old sluggish unresponsive pedal. Before 1.03, my wife's lexus, that has the same engine, felt to me like a hair-trigger pedal. There were a few times where I jerked forward quite a bit as a result of being used to my Tacoma. 1.03 gets me closer to the way the Lexus feels, but still not quite as hair-trigger sensitive. I think it's a good in-between compromise, since after all, it is a truck.

 

I used that link to avoid the virus alert also and have 1.1.83. It saw my dongle just fine and listed the serial number as expected. Without seraching for the response, I thought I saw a post from @OVTune that said 83 would work just fine. I have yet to flash as I had to head out of town but expecting to later this week.

 

Have you driven it in snow or wet conditions yet? If not, perhaps you could read and see that most people commenting on it being overly sensitive have been driving in wet or snowy conditions. Drive it these conditions, then I would be curious to hear what you have to say.

In dry conditions, this thing rips... a bit scary when u can break the end loose in 3rd gear going 30 mph....

 

Only time it told me it couldn't recognize the dongle was when I didn't have the proper drivers installed.

 

First test night was raining and sleeting conditions. I didn't notice it then, but at that time I didn't have it in ECT mode. Lately it's been dry, but I've driven exclusively in ECT.

 

well, I'll reinstall them again. frustrating. I want to get on the road!

 

Ya, it can get a little freaky. I broke the end loose a few times on that drive. But, as I have mentioned, it could be a byproduct of the stock tune and when I get more use it it perhaps it will not be a issue. But it is a real issue non the less for those who drive in this conditions.

 

It’s also only us MT folks who have mentioned dialing it back a bit. I don’t think anyone with the auto has said anything about it. We don’t have a slushbox between the motor and wheels to numb it down

 

Is the throttle touchy period? or is it because we're coming from the non responsive shit that Toyota gave us to a true responsive throttle?

also, is it something that could just take some driver adaptation or does it really need to be reduced? I know my brother's 08 Tundra was super sensitive on the throttle, so much that when I drove it I would break traction whenever I went over a good sized bump (RR tracks) because I'd blip the throttle... however when he drove it, he was just fine... he just adapted his right foot.

I'm also wondering if I'll see much of an MPG increase, as I'm probably more of a conservative driver than many judging from your descriptions on how you drive... I use Cruse all the time, rarely do over 75, and get 20mpg in the city. I'm getting the tune because I want that extra bit of power on tap if/when I need it, and hopefully even increase my MPG. MPG's aren't make or break, but since I've decided to slow down (2 strokes will do that) it's interesting to play the MPG game with myself, while enjoying the scenery.

what is hard for me is that my garage is at the top of a nice hill that is my driveway so when I touch the throttle it jumps/flares then stops moving if I let off , then I tap it again and it jumps/flares again - that sort of thing. and it's not me being to into the throttle - it's literally resting my foot on it very slowly until i get the first bit of power.

all things being equal i'd take this over anything else I've felt in this truck any day of the week though - so fun to drive. would be nice to have the ability to ever, so, slowly accelerate at times, yes. but I can live with it given all the other goodness.

 

Heavy tires make a big difference to the touchy throttle, they require more effort to move and thus less responsive.

I love the throttle after the first 3% in 1st gear, it works great in every other gear.

 

In the MT it’s pretty touchy currently in gear 1&2. I’ve got about 500 miles on it at this point and I still feel like it’s a bit too much. I’d rather utilize a bit more travel of the pedal, especially in the shitty weather. I’ll take this 100% over the stock tune, but it could use a little tweaking for perfection.

 

Gee maybe that's why I don't feel it. I have slightly bigger KO2s. I reduced my wheels to 16". Maybe those changes had offset the throttle response and made it feel just right.

 

Lol yup. Going from the stock tune to 1.03b is a night and day difference. Right after flashing I broke the tires loose unintentionally more than I ever had period in the previous 30k miles. There’s been snow and ice here (which has now turned to muddy slop) which has made it interesting

 

this is what I'd think as well. Mat has larger, heavier tires than the stock wranglers I'm still rocking on this truck. And while I keep thinking I'm going to replace them with KO2s or Ridge Grapplers I have had great luck w/ these tires in all kinds of scenarios and can't say for certain i wouldn't replace them w/ the exact same tires when these wear out

 

re-installed the drivers and same result. this is the only computer I have access to.

 

Does it show in Device Manager? Should be under 'Guardant dongles'
