Freedom Group is like a kiss of death to all who fall under that umbrella. Quality normally dies shortly after acquisition from what I've noticed.

Sucks too, because on that scale there's no reason they couldn't be profitable AND produce quality products. It's just that their focus seems to be on producing AS MUCH PROFIT AS POSSIBLE in the short term, regardless of other issues, rather than striking a balance.

It's like they decided instead of improving the quality of the crappy manufacturers in their portfolio, they decided it would be a lot easier to just consolidate as much as possible and make everything half-assed instead. I'd blame it on all the people that worked for bushmaster, but I'm pretty sure they all got fired after FG bought the company.

I have been looking at the Ruger Scout, looks like a pretty cool rifle. I like my guns shorter.

Something like that. Cerberus (the conglomerate that would become Freedom Group) bought Bushmaster, then announced that they were closing the Windham Facility and moving production out of state. Windham Weaponry was founded by the former Bushmaster owners after Cerberus dumped the staff and took the machinery and name South (figuratively and literally)

The ability to take the bushmaster name and quality south is a rather impressive feat, I have to admit.

What vintage Bushmaster are we talking about? Post 2006, they were made under the Cerberus/FG umbrella, and like Remington quality suffered.

I'd say from mid-2000s on, and any generation of their godawful carbon-15. I heard the 90s era bushmasters were decent, but I've never really done any research to see if that was true or not.

Yeah, the Carbon 15's are shit. Bump it on a door? Cracked.

I had to google that. A CF lower I get, but CF upper? Nah, I'll pass.

I had a friend who worked at a gun store and would gleefully take pics every time one showed up broken NIB.

Another buddy is an armorer and loves to take pics of out of spec rifles made by well known brands with persistent QC problems and publicly shame them on his facebook as a warning to others.

For you guys that own a crotch rocket that conceal carry. Do you keep it on your body or on the bike. It's pretty uncomfortable carrying on body especially leaning forward

From what I've read, the old Professional Ordinance ones were even worse, if that's possible.

I've heard this is the single time a shoulder holster makes sense. IDK, I'm selling my CBR1000 to finance my CCL and M1A, so:notsure:

I'm scared to ask, but what's the CCL process in IL like?

120 to apply, 150 ish for mandatory 16hrs training (12 classroom, 4ish practical with a qualifier of 7/10 on target at 5, 7, and 10 yards), 100 for fingerprinting that brings the wait from 120 days to 90. After all that, IL State Police can still say no, but I've not heard of anyone getting turned down that had no reason to be. All prices are as I remember them but I haven't checked recently. After that it's all dealing with local regs like mag caps, park bans, etc. I think a guy at our LGS said he was out 450 after all was said and done.

    What years was this?

I have a stainless 700 receiver I purchased 6 or so years ago. I have been planning to build it. If it is from the low QC years, I probably should build something else.
